Anyone Germinate directly in Neoprene?

First off all, this is my first post so hello ICmag forums!

I'm on my second grow atm which is an aeroponics setup, but I've germinated twice in rockwool and then placed them in the net pots with some hydroton, but I've been wanting to try germinating straight through in a neoprene collar. Anyone have any experience doing this?

I'm doing an experiment with some bagseed atm trying to get them to germiante right in the collar. I filled a net pot with hydroton right up to where it would hit the neorprene collar and then put the seed in there so the tip was barely out into the hydroton area. It's been in my germination box for 24 hours, so I'll update this if I'm successful.

Checked today and I can't see any taproot yet, only been like 72 hours so I'm not ready to call it a failure yet.

Hey cali

I would try soaking them in water for a few days so you can see the taproot...and then do it. Make sure you have some heat going in that germ box, because they like a warm humid place to germ.

I have an aero unit that I put the little seedling in, but I always germ them on top of my cablebox in a giffygrow tray in rapid rooter plugs. I have also found that soaking the seeds for a few days to get the taproot to show will give you a much better success rate.

Just be careful getting those seedlings in the neoprene as they are extremely delicate. It sucks when you rip one and have to discard it.

never have tried it; just clones with neoprene and even that is hit and miss compared to rockwool

yeah pizza I got one soaking atm that I'm going to try that way. I think I'll have to do some modification of the neoprene collar so that the sprout will have an easy time poking ou tthe top of it.
