Tent Size???

Looking to start a new grow, wondering if a tent
that is 48"x48"x76" is too big for 2 five gallon buckets under a 400 watt light?

any pointers are appreciated...

Thats a bit big for a single 400, but why only 2? a 2x4 would be better with a 400 IMO, or a 600 or 1000 would work best in that 4x4

You can easily put 4 buckets in there, a 5 gal bucket is a foot wide so if you put 4 buckets in each would go in its own 2'x2' corner. a 600 or 1k vertical would do better than a 400.
How do I know? 'cause I got the 4'x4' tent and only a 400. I got lots of extra space in there.

That is a 3 gal bucket right under the bulb.

To figure out sizing, use the 50 watt per square foot rule. Cannabis doesn't like to be lower than this.

4x4= 16 sqft. 400/16 is 35 wpsf :nono:

1000w is your proper lamp for a 4x4, giving you 62.5 wpsf.

I had my 400 running in a 3x2, for 66 wpsf

i have 4x4 with a 6oowatt and three plants in 5 gal buckets and i could fit another, although it is quite crammed in there cause theyv been super cropped and topped and trained, dont get much light past the top canopy,i wanna try run a 1000 if i can keep it cool enough. id go with the six and then use the 4 verticaly to get some light underneath. just my thaughts on the subject.

hmmm, sounds like a great idea, maybe i can find a way to set it up so the 400 is sitting on my rez for either 3 or 4 buckets....thanks for the great ideas, keep em coming.

I run a 400 in a DR120 that's 4 x 4. 3 buckets fit perfectly underneath my hood. With a little training and proper positioning I get each plant to sit right in the light spread.

Last run I harvested 5 oz, with one of the plants being a runt that only gave me 17g.

Temps are going to be by biggest problem if i decide to step up in wattage once warmer weather hits. Right now I can keeps temps at ambient (67F) with the window cracked. In the summer I can barely keep the room under/at 80F, so stepping up to a 1k might make temps a bit too much.

I think your OK regardless. Enjoy the tent!

yeah o struggle with temps running the six,i gotta have plenty of air flow in the room, though i think during winter should be just perfect

Shoot yeah, throw that 400 in there, make it a 1kw party! :rasta:

I ran 6 - 9 plants in 5 gals, filled the space beautifully

Here it is run vertically with 8 plants

Here's my tent with 3 plants DWC under a 400CMH. Simply center the plants under my hood to get full coverage to the canopy.

Even with just 3 in there, there isn't much room for much more. Should yield 8oz or so this run, and I'm still dialing this strain in.

i must correct my earlier statement,my tent is actualy only 3x3 with a six hundred, and i could probably fit 4 plants in there, the buds i got goin at the moment are at 39days and are solid as rock and still milky white,so should be a good yeild when they finally finish.

Hey
I went with a 4x4 tent. I only use 3x3 of the space. 400cmh veg and then a 600hps to flower. After this run i am gonna try nine 3.5 gal rdwc buckets in there. The extra space around i consider "breathing room". I can get all the way around my plants inside the tent. Most hydro is fairly stationary. It seems real important to be able to access all things inside the tent without dragging stuff out. Think maintenance. Slide around the plants and maintain. How are you going to grow your plants???? Two 5 gal plants would make a great trainedlstfimedsupercroppedpinchedbushyscrogbush....Four 5gal would be better imo. couple cents....

I was able to tend those plants just fine in place, including nute changes. And again, that is 5 gal DWC.

Running only 4 would just be a waste of grow space, in my experience.

It would be a waste. Either up your wattage, or downsize your tent. The upside is that if you do get the bigger tent, you will have room to expand later on down the road which is most important.

I think I am going to go with the 4x4 tent, throw either 5 or 6 buckets in there and run them all from a rez. I plan on using the 600 to veg and then add the 400 to flower...

Sounds like a solid plan

I'm curious why you wouldn't go ahead and veg under 1k total watts too?

ehh maybe i will, however i am also considering 2 smaller tents with 3 buckets in each tent...the 400 in one tent and the 600 in the other. I'm starting to think that i might have trouble with the heat from 1k.
