Should I give Coco a try?

I like the fact that perlite is sterile and brings no bugs into your room. The only thing holding me back from trying coco is fear of fungus gnats. Is this even an issue?
Yep,
You can get them in coco. Apparently mosquito dunks or Gnatroll type products handle them real well in coco. I only have a few right now, but it's my first coco grow so I'm keeping a close eye on them.

Thanks willy. Do you think they came with the coco or were already around?

If you see a few adults flying around, each one is laying hundreds of eggs for larvae to feed on your roots. Hate those things, glad to hear dunks are effective.

To the OP, awesome to hear your babies are loving the coco. I hope they take off from here on out. :)

I've been a coco grower for 3 years now and I will never go back to soil: too heavy, too dirty, over/under watering problems.
I use a commercial brand that has 20% Pearlite, plus biochar and some slow-release nutes (that cause me no problem at all).
