Should I give Coco a try?

Yes, try coco. you are going to be pleasantly surprised. And do get the big bag. Hand-water nutrients once a day in flower, about every other day in veg or less.

Coco rules for sure. One plus that never really gets mentioned is that you can flush everything out of a plant for some super fine herbage.

As far as feeding, don't rule out bottom feeding. Top feeding can only feed so much liquid. Bottom feeding will give you more hydro like results with a once a day feeding. The only downside is that you have to flush every 3-4 weeks.

Good luck.

Go for it!

No one shares my sentiment on this one, but GH cocotek "green brick" is my favorite type of coco.

Started 2 seeds last night in coco pre-soaked 5.5-5.6 1/2 strength nutes. 18 hours later one has cracked already. I also had some seeds that were started in perlite and were going to get moved to hydro. Took 1 and put in bubbler and the other 2 I transplanted into coco..will see how they do.
So I think I will like coco, seems pretty easy. Will just wait for it to dry out a tad, then water again. When they are seedlings, about how often do you water? Do you feed half strength the first water or 2...or just pH'ed water? Hopefully they do well. If things turn out good I may switch to all Coco. Kinda sick of hydro.

I'm curious what brand you ended out buying and what your initial impressions are. I too am going to try a couple in coco. I'm doing my first delve into DWC right now and find the noise of the air pumps and air stones etc to be a little annoying in my situation. I run 6 plants at a time and only have 4 going right now. I just cant imagine adding another pump and 2 more pots in there, the noise would just be too much. Coco looks like a good alternative.

Well I bought a few different kinds. Sunleaves, Botonicare, and Burpee. I used the Botonicare and the Burpee. Burpee swelled fast and alot. The Botonicare did not swell nearly as much. So far so good, both seeds have cracked and I expect one of them to be above ground by tomorrow. First impressions are good! I will say I think the Burpee coco is going to dry out much faster as it is more like coffee grounds and the top dried out overnight.

I would think the Botanicare is nice stuff since I use their Ready Gro Moisture Formula which would be perfect for your situation as it's designed for 1 watering a day though you can do 3 if you want. It's also some of the best quality coir fiber I've seen between them Roots Organics and Bio Bizz so you may want to look into the RG. It also have myco's and trichoderma added n with wormcastings..

Thanks Thunder,
I just bought a couple bricks, just to try out a few brands. The Botonicare I have is the Boss line...not sure what that means...but it is way different than the Burpee. It has loose fibers on the bottom, and does not seem a finely grounded. I do know that the Burpee stuff is already drying out the top layer. So far so good, hopefully they turn out good.

Well I am glad to say that I like coco so far, alot! It has only been 3 days and both my seeds are above ground. Just damp pre nute and pH to 5.5. I also transplanted 2 seedlings started in perlite, into straight coco. Also put 1 in a bubbler. The ones in Coco look better and have grown more. I am going to do a side by side and see what does better. So far I am impressed! And actually I left a little bit of perlite in one cup with coco, it is growing the fastest. Might add some to a couple buckets of coco when I transplant.

So far, So good...they look great!

You do not need Coco specific nutes. Its all about the nute RATIO and PH. Water daily gives better results but great thing unlike of hydro systems. Is if a pump or some shit fails and your out of town you have 2-3days to catch it.

If you use organics need to flush longer to get the "organic taste from the medium"

I am using the 6/9 formula of just regular GH at half strength to pre soak coco. Then just water until they ask for more food. Thanks!!

You are going to love this nutrient mix I know I am over all the other shit I've tried like Fox Farm, Flora Nova and Pure Blend Pro... Even though I'm not using GH as my base the profile is pretty damn close with Cutting Edge Solutions plus I've heard from a few long time GH users that switched said the CES quality was WAY better than the GH and the yield was also a bit better...

I found the Burpee stuff at Lowe's then I went to the hydro store and got a block of CocoTek from GH. I'm gonna give them both a try and decide which one or either is going to be the one I go with. I sure like the idea of being able to get the Burpee stuff from Lowe's as it's about 90 miles closer than the hydro store. I sure hope I like this method, these bubble bucket are drivin me buggy.

what's up with this Burpee Coco at Lowes you guys keep talking about? Is it cheaper and still good quality or what? Long fibers? Nice and spongy?

$2.47 for a brick. I just re hydrated my first brick and it came out looking and feeling a lot like loose friable soil. I mixed it with my bare hands and then rinsed and was pretty impressed with how clean my hand rinsed. They recommend mixing 1 brick (actually comes in 2 pieces) in 5 quarts of water and that makes 8 quarts of 'mix'. It does have somewhat of a tobacco smell to it, not offensive tho. Here we go.. new adventure in growland.. aint it great!

I was thinking the Burpee stuff looks like tobacco myself. It has zero long fibers and seems to dry out quickly on top. It swelled much more than Botonicare. This is my 1st experience with coco, so I am not sure what is best, but so far they love it!!

I like the fact that perlite is sterile and brings no bugs into your room. The only thing holding me back from trying coco is fear of fungus gnats. Is this even an issue?

I am really glad I gave Coco a try. My seedlings are doing great! I can almost watch them grow. Going to transplant them tomorrow, because they will be going under a 250 HPS at firts to veg...then to a 400 HPS. Hopefully they take off even more. I am amazed at the growth in 5 days, just under CFLs.

They are in very small cups right now, and I just keep moist...never run off yet. They look really happy like that. Im just going by size, I figure the bigger they get...the more water they get. They are starting the 3rd set of leaves now, and look very healthy. Have been feedling 1/2 strength Rez Formula. Might up it to full strength tomorrow on 1 to see how it reacts. I am sure it will be fine. We shall see!
