About how many seeds can I expect to get from an open pollination in a 2x5 cab under a 400w hps?

i did an open pollination 3 years ago and I am doing the same this year..from 1 male and 4 females I got approx 500-800 seeds from each cross and I made 2 crosses
so i yielded approx 1000-1500 seeds from one breeding project...makes you wonder why beans cost so much...fuckem makem yourself...and never have to pay for the genetics again is what i say

Well to be honest I understand high prices. It's not a matter of how easy it is to make seeds, it about the years spent eliminating traits, backcrossing, and elite genetics that aren't available to the masses. If you don't like the method, don't buy them. You can easily find keepers in cheaper seeds aswell, but some breeders are deserving of the prices the catch. IMO. There will always be those that disagree, but that's your prerogative.
That being said, it's all dependent on the size of your plants, the time you pollinate, the amount of calyxs, and so so so much more. There's honestly just too many variables to say a definite answer.
Actually on second thought it's 987 if you don't get 987 you're doing it wrong. ahaha. *sarcasm

Easiest way to picture it is how many hairs you see on the girls. Wait for there to be a ton of white hairs and then pollenate the shit out of em. Then repeat a couple days later.

You could do an open pollination, or just separate the male out and gather pollen with a lil paintbrush and swish it on the female you want to make seeds with. smoke the others seed free.
One plant will make a ton of beans. literally hundreds.
If you do an open pollination you won't have nothing worth smoking. All there will be is seeds upon seeds upon seeds.

I have to agree with Lola...what are you going to do with a thousand seeds? Make seeds by painting a bud or two...you'll get enough for several personal grows. I paint one or two decent sized buds, that, along with the stray pollen, gives me 50+ seeds. Just make more seeds when you feel you're getting low.
Yeah exactly the best part about painting pollen is if ur careful enough you could choose what to pollinate.for instance you have a real pretty phenos and want to breed them for their superb genetics but also would like to enjoy some bud. You will get PLENTY of beans pollinating lower buds or whatever. Possibilties are endless.
The whole argument about seeds being over priced and why. There's a ton of research involved of years and years of testing. Breeding the best of the best phenos etc. Think about it like a cure of sort of disease. It might really really cheap to make but the money they spent on let's say employees Care takers etc. But yeah who wouldn't want a pack of ReZ gear for $20 or whoever your favorite breeders or strains is. It's a long process that obviously can be done by anyone with the right knowledge and skill.

just blast pollen everywhere and send in what you don't use for the server fund

Romanticized notions of "breeding craftsmanship" are, unfortunately, quite commonplace.
More than a few now-legendary strains were just crosses of other commercially available seeds ( Space Queen ), or happy accidents ( C-99 ).
Vic High proposed nifty notions of how to breed, but never claimed to have actually produced an IBL from a cross.
Years of testing? Several of BOG's "strains" appeared only months after seeds went out from one of the first Charity Auctions.

It depends on the strain,, the calyx/sepal anatomy,, and the size of the female parent plant and the date of inception.
.. sativa species crop more seed than indica species...
.. a plant inseminated at 30days will produce fewer seeds than a plant inseminated at 40 days.

Be sure to include a small reciprocating fan that continuously blows back and forth over the male, towards the females, all day long. The ladies will produce pistils gradually, and the pollen will appear a little at a time, and maximum production will be reached.
You can get a good crop of seeds with saved pollen and a paintbrush, but a fan is easier and produces better.
The females will take longer than 8 weeks ... but should yield about 400 seeds each.

i get around a hundred from just pollenating one medium sized bud about 5 weeks from finish. probably worth making sure the cross is worthwhile before making thousands of seeds. (thats if you havent already done the cross and grown it out).
