Help! Corn field grow: AF or early strain?

Alright, I'm new to Icmag and I must say it is ridiculous amounts more constructive than grasscity. Hello all! Anyway, its my first post and its regarding the grow i'm planning this summer. I live in a super rural area at 46 degress north in WA, US. Basically, I want to grow 20-30 nice big potent plants in a couple corn fields around my area. Problem is, I leave to college about the first or MAYBE second week of September. My question is: should I risk using regular early flowering strains that may not finish in time or do i just go autoflowers? Loss of potency is obviously a concern, as well as yield if I do AF, neither of which is appealing to me. Heres links to several early indica dominant strains I was considering BUT this is the area in which i have the least knowledge and ANY HELP/GUIDANCE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

edit: man what the fuck. how do i direct people to attitude seed bank correctly so you all can help me with strains!?

buy some seeds from Gypsy at seed botique Dope. Ive been buying from him for years and he's a straight up guy with an honest reliable business.

Reeferman has a couple of offerings that might finish. Early ogkush and purple kush but the first of septemeber is early. Autoflowers are going to be your only gauranteed finish.

hey man if your looking for any guides for corn grows or any strains to use that are early finishing but still super potent and can withstand the cold and will finish on time you should check out gunnarguchi or esbe's work... gunnarguchi has a couple good threads/guides for corn and he uses mostly early finishing strains alot of which were made by esbe and are amazing for outdoor... heres a couple links to gunnar's threads and in there you'll see alot about these early finishing strains in there http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=61390 and http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=61390... i hope this helps you out and also about aquiring seeds i believe esbe is sending in some beans to seedbay soon

You aren’t the first college student to propose this same scenario. Where’s school because many early strains, actually most strains, don’t finish all at the same time? There will be different phenos in most all strains so it’s not as easy as throwing in some seeds and coming back on Sept 15th. Some may finish Sept 15th some Oct 1st you get the picture. As far as autos i don’t have any real life experience but I can tell you that autos and the adjectives like “nice big potent plants” usually don’t go together.

My suggestion is to set realistic expectations sure put the 20 – 30 out but expect to bring in 10 on Sept 15th and if possible drive back and get the rest when they are ready. I would head over to UDG and ask some of these same questions they have the strains to fit your scenario and many auto strains and auto fans over there too I am just not sold on them myself. Need more info on UDG let me know but not allowed to talk other web sites in the threads anymore.

Good Luck with school, which is the most important part.

Alright, thanks for the help so far. I registered on UDG (several members recommend, not sure why??)

Sounds like about 30 or so early finishers (personal reccomendations??) I was considering autos but I have the money for femmed seeds and that seems like a much better option as a beginner.

This is my first grow but it should turn out nicely because I'm pretty serious about it and will be visiting my plants nightly a few times a week.

ALSO, HAS ANY ONE EVER GROWN UNDER PIVOTS?? Pivots are machines that automatically water corn with little human maintenance and what will be watering my plants for me all summer long!! They are everywhere in dry climates like mine, unlike the midwest which relies on rain. What I'm concerned about is overwatering my plants. Anybody with experience in this area, please tell..

autos and corn fields generally dont mix . corn grows tall and really really quickly at that. you need a plant that finishes quick yes but has a good bit of stretch too. a foot tall plant surrounded by 7 foot corn plants will have a hard time to say the least. id say go with some non autos that are quick as hell with some stretch to em but if you have to leave by the end of the first or second week of september it does not sound possible . gotta add in to trim and dry them buds befor you leave for school. i would suggest using some of the newer generation of autos and find a differnt spot to put em out there little and and can be hidden in so many differnt places . just go lookin around find a out of the way area to put em out in. since you dont have to wait for mid june to put em out like you do with corn fields you could harvest em a good deal before you have to leave. only downside is youl have to water em yourself but since there small they dont require loads of water all the time .

wrong. there are always spots where some corn seeds weren't planted or wet spots that the corn plants couldn't grow as well.

good idea is to search on posts, subjects and users who have already grown in corn ( links in my signature is a good start ; )
depending on where you are and the local corn it would be adviceble to look for early finishing genetics

most commercial available genetics arent really that early and wont do in corn unless your planning on using small AF genetics

for early finisher able to comped with corn i would like for Danish/Nordic or Canadian genetics from smaller private breeders

you might have to google in same cases to find the seeds but they are there and being used with great success

the main reason for being so early and adopted to the weather is often that they are landraces that have been grown in these countries for centuries where only the best adopted have survived and made seeds for next year

heres some random pictures from cannabis grown in corn

In you first post you mentioned Autos and Sept. finishers and UDG has the breeders to handle those aspects and a shitload of experience. Great bunch of guys to boot just my 2 cents.

Fems sound like a good choice you just need to make sure not to rely on the published harvest dates because they aren’t as early as claimed. I missed that you were from the EU you guys have a longer growing season then the US location of the same lat. So later finishing strains like Oct 1st - 15th may be ok depending on corn harvest dates in your area.

Gunnarguchi a very knowledgeable corn guerilla and from the other side of the pond also I am sure he can provide valuable experience on strains and growing conditions.

before you do anything make sure you know the type of corn being grown, the target consumer and time of harvest. any corn not grown to seed maturity and not intended to be used as animal feed is probably not a suitable field for your garden.

you were directed to udg because these canadians know what they are doing when it comes to early season hybs that will avoid the crud that comes with wet autumns. and excuse me cause i know they are not all canadians so a better term should note breeders with expertise in growing in cold, damp climates. peace-biteme

No worries there, I'm very familiar with gunnar's and several other corn field grows. Its been quite the inspiration actually. I'm considering doing a journal, I figure it will help when it comes to asking questions during the season.

Also, I've really been thinking about going organic in the corn field. Any thoughts?

i think going organic there might be wasted efforts and money unless your sure the farmer only uses organic ferts there
also some organics in nature might attract animals digging in the soil

i use cheap slow releasing pellets ferts myself
one with growing NPK values after transplant and later one with more bloom NPK later

its harder to "flush" i a corn field so better use them in good time ahead.

to me it doesnt matter as i grow for seeds and kief, but for others harvesting pot that might be an issue
