My friend took down his crop of ak-48, blueberry & jack herea last week. They all amelt nice before harvest, but not they smell of fresh cut grass.
What is the reason this happens & how can it be avoided?

Definitely sucks to have that happen.

Every time I've experienced it it's been because the cut buds dried out too fast, often times WAY too fast.

Give this thread a read and never have it happen again :)

I've smelt that fresh cut grass smell quite often when people cut the large fan leaves off before they're dry. It usually goes away after a day or two. My theory is that it's because of so much exposed cut area and you're smelling the water soluable saps evaporating through the cuts. Better to leave the sun leaves on until they're dry anyway. It preserves more flavor, smell and maybe even yield in the dried bud.

You dried them too fast. Every environment is different and not everyone can take and hang their plants for a week before they jar them. I actually jar mine after 3 or 4 days in drying boxes and come off with better results. You have to experiment a little to find a method that works best for you.

Yah I don't think you're supposed to hang em a week . . . not too sure if anyone read my link but.

Now I'm slightly confused. There was a poll up earlier about triming wet vs dry. Results were most trim wet. Well if they trim wet then all these theories about the hay smell coming from trimming fan leaves off seems off. I dry for 7 day whole plant then trim & jar. That hay smell for me goe away with curing. But I was going to trim wet next harvest after seeing that poll. But now I'm afraid that my erb will smell and taste like shit from drying too fast. My room I like 88* F and 45% humidity so trimme nugs should dry pretty fast & I'm afraid to paper bag them from all the mold horror stories. So anyone have any bright ideas.

My herb tends to smell like hay just after drying. This gradually goes away the longer it cures, preferably in jars. My theory is the herb/resin odors lack the concentration to overwhelm the hay/chlorophyll odors until it is stored in an airtight chamber.
