Do Herms come out in veg?

I have a purple train wreck plant I grew from seed. It is six weeks into veg state. There are things that look like hermaphrodite pods near the top of the plant. The rest of the plant does not have these.

Is it possible to see hermies in flowering? Could they be something else?

Thanks, JD, CO.

When you say "hermaphrodite pods"... what are you talking about?

A hermaphrodite shows male and female flowers. Do you know how to tell them apart? If your plant is showing preflowers of both sexes, then yeah, you've got a hermie.

I have seen a seed plant show sex in veg but I think it was more due to the strain and it being rootbound. Not since.

You might be seeing is the swelling at the base of a node where it meets the stem. these grow as the branches have to hold more weight.

Got any pics? Will be much easier to obtain proper help if others can see what you are seeing. ;)

Thanks!

I find that under most circumstances, waiting until at least the 10-14 day mark of bloom before I even worry about looking for the sex of a plant has never done me wrong. Sexing isn't difficult. Just about every plant I've grown shows male parts pretty quickly. They're quite easily distinguished. Female hairs tend to show before I even notice the pre-flowers. GrnMtnGrwr is correct, though, that there really isn't any such thing as a "hermaphordite pod." A hermie plant will show the flowers of both sexes.

None of the strains I've dealt with showed pre-flowers in veg that were definitively recognizable to me. I have never been able to tell, and almost always veg for at least six weeks. Regardless, you have until at least a month or more into bloom before males or hermies might even come close to threatening your crop. Don't sweat it!

Well, I have an idea

Well, I have an idea

How about a little photography to help you all along?

BTW I should say that the plant is a little rootbound and it was the slowest plant I have ever had grow from seed. The idea of Purple and Trainwreck together, well, it sounded great......

Heya JD! Long time no see...welcome back into the groove! :dance013: Not trying to gimp up your thread, but I don't want to see you get wrong advice. ;)

Ummmmm, might be true for 'you'....perhaps (but I have my doubts). Is never a good thing to give advice like that, esp with a concrete timeline.

More factual...........when any (even one) male flower OPENS there IS pollen present.....period. And this does NOT always occur at a month+ after 12/12. For example, I have a C99 male that opens around 7 days of flw....and a G13bx male that opens it's first flower at 10-14 days....so as you can see, telling someone to wait a month or more into flw is severely flawed.

Not trying to instigate an argument.....just do not like to see erroneous advice being spread that could screw up someone's garden, so I feel compelled to correct the misinformation.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info. I never let a male hang around that long, it was just something I've seen many people here say. I will yield to a breeder anytime, even if I've never seen anything move that fast.

Please don't spread info about things that you have no personal experience with, it doesn't do anybody any good. :badday: Most of the people that you've heard say that, probably picked it up from someone else too.

And that is how misinformation gets spread....snowballed through the grow forums. I meant no malice in my post,
perhaps a bit stern I guess looking back at it, just that nothing gets my hackles up quicker in the grow forums than
to see misinformation perpetuated.

Thank you....and good growing to you! :canabis:

Right on GMG. ;)
