Strain: DJ Short's Flo, from clone purchased at Patient's Choice

Nutes: GH Flora 3-part, Aquashield, and SuperThrive, 2 Weeks of Flush

System/Style: Grown in DWC, 3 plant SCROG in a 18-gal res using hydroton.

Space: 6'x6' Secret Jardin Tent

Lights: 1x 1000w HPS, Quantum Ballast

Flavor/Smell: Lemony and Skunky

Burns: Clean and smooth, good morning smoke

Notes: Was in a 6'x6' tent with a ton of other tall sativas, and didn't get the light it deserved, so its not the most dense bud, but its super tasty and pretty damn potent, more than dispensary quality. Just made some ISO hash from some of it, and it is pretty darn good, better than anything store bought for sure! The buds weren't the most dense, but not too bad, but seriously incredible trichome formation.

excellent! I was told by long time growers that you do not need 50 watts per square feet to get great bud and those that have that much are just compensating for not being great growers. I agree and your thread proves it! Enjoy your meds!

How was the yield?

Not the greatest, but as I mentioned, there were other plants competing in the tent with this one, so the buds grew huge, but weren't as dense as they could of been. We also had some heat control issues in there, which also could of hindered it. There were these 3 Flo's competing in a 6'x6' tent with 18 sativas in it, all reaching for the sky. Flo is 80% sativa, but not a tall one, so it didn't stand a chance next to the SDxATFs that are still blooming. Honestly, we just wanted to pull these out to make space for everything else, but the quality came out awesome, just a low yield. This is not speaking for the strain. From what I can tell, Flo is probably a great yielder given better conditions!

This tent is sold as a 6'x6', but upon measurement, its actually only about 5' 2" square, so roughly there are only 25 square feet of actual grow space that the light sheds on, not including fan and humidifier. So if you figure 1000w/25sq ft, you are getting ~40w per sq foot! Not that you can't get quality bud out of less wattage per square foot, but your nugs just won't be as hard and dense!

right ok, I can see 40. But say you want to maximize the space you use for 1 or 2K, more than 40 is not going to produce such an improvement that it is worth sacrificing the weight? I wonder, for instance, what most commercial growers do for watts per square foot. I am sure in say 1000 square feet, they do not have 100 lights but probably more like 10 or 20.

If it were a perfect 32' by 32' room, and you had a total of exactly 1024 square feet, I would do exactly 48 lights. That would give you appropriate spacing for ducting the lights and for good coverage. You would still have some walking space and separated walking and working area, so realistically you would use about 900 sq. feet of that, and thats where most of your lights would be hung, thus:

48 lights x 1000W =48,000 watts total room
48,000W/900SQFT.=53.333333333333333W/SQFT.

I don't do tents much, I'm coming from a commercial stand point.
