comin from nyc i came into the weed community smokin phillies. the older cats smoked the leaf wrapped dutchies so it was likely that i transitioned. back then dutchies were $0.75.. now them shits are $1.50... $1.25 if you find the right store. chokin on some of this sour i copped from uptown i thought about how i could make fan leaves into rolling papers. i kno the process involves fermentation of the leaves and stuff but i wanted to get some insight from the community before i embarked on my trials. so what do you guys think?

at what stage of growth should the leaves be extracted? etc..?

I have never read of any technique that works with weed leaf, but it would be cool if we could find one. I made weed leaf cigars in 79 with big hand leaves from an outdoor crop, they looked great. Tasted like shit, with a heavy dull stone, not worth the work. I will watch in case anyone posts a good one.

dub- I'm in NYC too, Look for fanta(fonta?) leaf, its the wrap in cigars that you use to roll, but without buying the whole cigar. I used to able to buy from the jamican store up the block but they closed. I personally roll with small Bambu's since the 80s, if you find the right store you get them for .60 for a whole pack. I do occasionaly use other brands and wraps but always go back to old reliable. Bambu has be around since the 1700's for a reason.

I met this dude once who rolled his joints in MJ leaf. He rolled the joints when the leaves are fresh, when dried it was tight and burned great, but that is all I can remember. Good luck, I hope someone has some good info, it would be a good use for fan leaves.

I was talking about doing this too... I think using fresh leafs would be best and use iso oil to hold it together...

so you feelin that crunch too huh? ima recent transplant to NJ but born and raised in NY, still work there.

i was up in arms when i heard these bastards were tryin to get rid of the flavored papers all together since "they" say its attractive to kids, horse shit! they are gonna smoke regardless and besides its too easy for them to raid mommy and daddys liquor cab or medicine chest.

anyway, point is they now have dutches in these foil ziplock pouches and come 2 to a pack. the great thing about it is that not only do the dutches pretty much average out to a buck a piece but that resealable foil pouch is a god send!! i just save the pouches every time i get a pack and keep the regular dutches in them (the grape, strawberry, honey. etc). far as i have found they come in GREEN (imo replaces the honey), WINE (totally new flavor as far as i can tell) and REGULAR. i love the wine personaly, my brother swears by the green but that wine is my shit!!!

ive heard that the rolling of leaves is kinda harsh and using the oil to seal it is best. every time i say im gonna stop rollin dutches it always fails, but eventually i stop and start usin my flavored papers that i still have. bongs are my steady now and i only use dutches and papers when i travel.

i hear what your saying about the whole price thing and its crazy but thats america, al about that mighty dollar, and the habibs know we want them so its gonna be that way! lol once i hears they were tryin to get rid of the flavors altogether i ran out thinkin that stores were gonna try and get rid of em, but nah, that aint the case! lol

I used to do this,....smokes as harsh as a five paper "washington sq. park skinny", but great conversation starters at parties or whatever.

take the giant fan leaves (indicas work best), and separate the longest three center blades and with a razor VERY CAREFULLY "shave" the stem on the underside flat, working from about 1" from the tip back to the "heel" of the leaf.

then I place them on waxed paper flat as you can, inside a baggie and lay a book on it for about a day or so.

when the leaves are ready to wrap, they feel stretchy and tough,....if yours are tearing and breaking, it's too soon, if they are dry and crack, just put some drops of water in the bag, and stick in the microwave on high for 30 to 40 seconds, and then wait 10 minutes before opening and rolling,......again when they are ready they feel stretchy, and they do not tear easily.

there are many, many ways to roll em, I got the best results from watching actual cuban cigar workers on you tube, the way they roll it on a table, flat, and pull to make the roll tight, then tucking the ends under 2 or 3 wraps from the end so they don't unravel as you smoke em,....I use only partially dried buds, as they stick together when you roll it into a "log".

you'll need anywhere from 5 to as many as 20 leaves depending on how big your "churchill" gets!

after rolling, I like to stick em in a jar packed pretty full and treat the canna-gars like they were buds curing, opening daily, and rotating to prevent mold.

really they are more trouble than they are worth, and taste about like someone rolled a joint using the entire new york times,......sunday edition! :smokeit:

have fun.

Hey guys. i'm from nyc too. They got this new stuff, i forget what its called but its a cigar with a very small amount of tobacco and like 8 outer leaves and 8 inner papers (similar to dutch masters) all rolled up together and they come apart very easily. Its like getting 8 dutches in one. Its obviously made specifically for rolling blunts because i don't know who in their right mind would actually smoke that as a cigar, lol. I don't smoke many blunts anymore, used to when i was a kid, but they're kinda harsh, and i prefer a good bong hit. But my friend had one of these last time i was at her place and it rolled a mean blunt. Just ask the local bodega guy. he'll know what your talking about.
