Sure would be cool if you could figure a way to make a bookshelf that slides away like a glass door. Or pivots like in a 007 movie or Enter the Dragon.

You could build a book shelf like the one pictured, and put it on some wheels/casters. With a piece of trim on the front, you would never see the wheels. Then you could slide the whole book shelf out

Or mount some heavy duty rails (like drawer slides but much stronger) on the floor and book shelf and just slide the whole unit out.

You could create some locking pin that would prevent the unit from coming out accidentally.

casters seem like a good idea if your on a wooded/concrete floor, would help with the weight of the bookshelf or wall. I've been trying the bolt/pin locking idea on a stealth cab for a month or so now and cant find a solid solution... but.. I have been looking into magnetic locks and if your going all out on the construction. They make 1200lb magnetic door locks. Typically they're mounted at the top of doors in commercial buildings but they're easy to install, just gotta line it up right. You could mount a door or wall/shelf with one or two of these things, and have it could work like a detachable hinge. power outage kinda sucks though, they need juice to lock...search on google/ebay and you will find them. I think there hundred bucks or so, and you gotta have 12v power supply with sufficient amperage too..

UPS Powersupply(battery back-up) wouldnt be a bad idea, if you were to go this route. And if you want to get fancy you can get a 12v controller and have it unlock from a car alarm remote.. :muahaha:

Good luck

I built a hidden room once and here is what I did. Frame out a door opening the size that you want with 2x4, leaving exposed studs for at least 1' on either side and above the opening. Now build a frame for the door itself from 2x4 that will fit in the opening with about a 1/2"- gap all the way around. Use fence door hinges to attatch the door to the opening (make sure they swing out) Mark the left and right side of where the door is. Now drywall over the entire exposed stud portion. Once done take an extremely sharp utility knife and cut the door loose so that it will open. Now tape and paint as neccessary. From here it's kinda up to you waht you want to do to cover the small slits from the utility knife. I used a 6' tall floor mirror that I leaned against the wall...stylish yet concealing :rasta: But a bookshelf on wheels, a large painting, tapestry, large ficas tree or bush, paneling, etc... This may not be the best method but it worked for me and is very discreet even when nothing is covering it.

try SOS invisible hinges, they are like $65 each but they will last forever. You may have to add a studd on the inside of the door frame as the hinges have to be notched into the frame. Once you put the hinge on you can put a ball catch to help keep the door closed or just two magnets then just glue a mirro to the door that is a little bigger then door to conceal the small openings were the door meets the frame just make sure the door opens out. another method is to buy a piece a wood that is bigger then the oening and cut a 2x4 at a 45 degree angel going up and put it on the back of the wood then put another 2x4 going across the opening with a 45 degree angel going down then you can just hang the wood with the opposing angels and it looks like paneling. your best bet is to look into invisble hinges they are all over now a days.

thankyou all for the info
i think i have come up w/ a solution how about mirros the whole wall w/ one or two mounted on doors on casters, using some hidden hinges for the doors?then i could use those electric locks like at jewelry stores where they buzz you in and put the buttons hidden in another room or up in the cieling? think that would work?
