Uselessness of enzymes and amino-acids

I was re-reading a nutrients guide written by a very well reputed member of a local site some years ago where he claimed that the utility of enzymes and amino-acids on plants has never been scientifically demonstrated.
So, can you mention a study or a text from any indipendent sources that demonstrate their utility or uselessness?

From what i remember about enzymes they were being used to clean their soilless mix after use and i think someone posted a company rep said it would kill the soil life. I really wish i could find the post, i think it was by theoldman and using pond and septic/drain enzymes instead of expensive agriculture labeled enzymes. I thought i had it in my favs.

Id really like to hear what you guys know

Thank for the answer. Just to clear my 1st post: the guide I mentioned refers to adding commercial solutions, not to the utility of enzymes and amino-acids themself as it's out of doubts.

i don't have anything to contribute but i've been curious about amino acids and enzymes in organics for a while so i hope that we get a good discussion!

Without doing a google i remember a molecular weight of around 60 as an upper limit for simple diffusion , all these additives are larger than this and cost the plant energy to absorb if its even possible.
Thought they were to encourage soil microbes and increase growth indirectly from their by products and decomposition.

Not sure how it could do much in a sterile hydro system.

Assorted sugars visibly improve growth in JI soil mixes but not personally tried anything beyond this yet.

I can see there being a big controversy with helping with chem nutes in regards to enzymes, because the idea of an enzyme is to increase the chemical reaction. Although with chem nutes the synthesized element is already available to the plant. So how can it speed the process up?

I have read people that do state it still will help with chem nutes but I could never figure out how.

As for organics I could see enzymes working with microbes to help break down organic material quicker.

Not sure about amino acids, but I thought I read that those were just a gimmick.

if i remember correctly there are a few amino acids like glycine and some L forms that act as a chelate or a complex for some nutrients. amino acids are also a source of N for microbes. enzymes are awesome... expensive, bottled enzymes... not so much. both trichoderma and bacteria excrete tons of enzymes that help keep the rhizosphere healthy.
