Hello glad to have joined this forum ...two days ago they slapped a smartmeter

welcome to ICmag

I would not be worried about a smart meter, the whole idea was that you could see when you are suing teh most electricity and how you could cut back, it was never intended as a Law enforcement tool.

It is just a sign of the times, everybody wants you to cut back on consumption, so they are offering the tools too do so

a flip flop is a pretty effective solution for 'hiding' from a smartmeter as you're getting rid of the telltale 12 on 12 off power draw, though this problem isn't as big as it seems when you factor in the other things drawing power through the day that mask the draw of one single thing.

Led arrays dont wear out the bearings or gears of a power meter.
neither do other lights............
with enough LEDs you can still draw enough power to be noticeable if you're not careful about the usage.
not sure what your point is here hydrorascal.....

anyway, the power company, like dr. dog summed up, probably isn't looking for your grow or anything, especially with only 1 600w light. THere are tv's and PC's that draw tthat much. It doesn't really matter whether your ballast is digital or not, the power draw isn't going to be that much different than a magnetic ballast.

If you were running 5k+ without flipflopping, you'd have a reason to worry.

The only thing I worry about is I've heard in some states, the Smartmeters allow you to compare your bill with that of your neighbors. If that happens where i am indoor growing will probably come to a screeching halt, and what weed there is will be triple in cost. Hooray for efficiency!

this seems like an invasion of privacy/illegal. However, that being said hopefully it has an opt out option ;)

Smart grid technology is a total invasion of privacy. In some areas of "high consumption" they will actually cut power during peak hours. This includes houses just running A/C. No cool air during peak hours? What about old folks and pets? What about my medicine?
It goes to show that the powers that keep us from growing hemp as an annually renewable power resource, once again use incremental bullshitting in getting the populace to accept the lie that energy has to be dirty and harmful to the planet to produce, and therefore must be properly relegated. Don't buy the lie!
Forgive my rant, but I apparently feel strongly against "smart" grid technology. If we legalized, and utilized hemp for energy, these suckers would have no excuses to smart grid a damn thing.
If at all possible, avoid that shit like the plague!

smart metres

well i think they are ok cause no more spining like its gona fly to the moon wheel with the red line lol and they can drive by and get your usage details or it gets sent out wirelesly? no more walking up to the side of the house. and yes the time of usage so you can save energy by runing your stuff after 7 pm till5am or whatnot.

this is EXACTLY why I moved into a 25 unit apartment building with ONE METER FOR THE ENTIRE BUILDING,....all utils included in the rent. (so I run a 1000w, of course)

it would cost the landlord more than $100,000.00 to put individual meters on all the units, plus the giant ass billboard that's on the roof, pays the landlord more than enough each month to cover everyone's power usage.

took a year of looking to find a place like this.
