The only regret I have is not finding ICmag before I bought the j. cervantes grow bible. Cervantes contradicts himself alot in the book. I should have known after reading him give hundreds of people bad advise in hightimes. Anything you ever need to know about growing is right here when some one gives bad advice usually 3 more people correct him later in the post. I do have a book Marijuana Home growers manual by Billy McCann. It is a great book. It reviews the top nutrient companies and gives feeding schedules. It also tells you not only what the different hydro systems are but how to build them. Again all of this is on this site aswell.

Old thread, but I just thought I'd mention that I was at Barnes and Noble today and what do you know, they're carrying both Jorge and Green's Bibles.

I picked up Green's for $26.

By the way, I know ICMag and the like are the best sources of information. I think a book is still a quicker reference point for those times when you're just not quite sure. Say you take a few too many tokes and can't quite remember what the pH needs to be. Hell, that's happened to me a few times. I find it a lot quicker to just open up a book laying around than checking ICMag.

I'm loving Green's bible. More than Jorge's I must say.

Sorry for the poor pic, but for an absolute noob I believe this book wins handsdown!

Integral Hydroponics.

Easy to read, diagrams and pics as needed.
Clean overview of the growing process and origional copies are as rare as hens teeth. This thing has been pirated word for word, pic for pic by shady characters the world over.

I don't advocate getting a shady copy, but if you can get a copy of this book you will be well on your way to competency.

So what you guys think? If you only had to pick ONE book for reference, what would it be?

re: one book for reference

There really isn't one. As soon as you think you have one, you'll trump it with something else.

the U.S. public university extension schools (and their websites) have some of the best gardening, farming and greenhouse information. and as such, since their local, they're especially good for outdoor soil condition info, (in case you are into that sort of thing).

The web forums have the most up to date and comprehensive indoor and hydro technique type information.

The professional greenhouse magazines have some of the most up to date container gardening scientific information.

what secondtry said about the lighting information is true

50 w / sq. ft. while technically meaningless to a plant, can work to grow great MJ which for some people is the be all, end all of the matter. Others are not satisfied until they understand the true relationship of the plant and light. It's a matter of personal preference. Some say tomato, others say tomAto.

Carl Carlson...I see your point...The book I showed does not fit into a reference category...my boo-boo...but th@ being said, I STILL think it is the IDEAL first book for any prospective indoors grower, though it is mainly aimed @the hydro end of the spectrum.

Your point on one reference book not being up to the job is apt...wh@ one needs to do is not just learn EVERYTHING about growing, but instead learn to LEARN!...once th@ is taught, the rest snowballs with experience until critical mass is reached.

I wouldn't say that it is the best book out there, but Soma's book, "Organic Marijuana Soma Style" is a pretty good read. It really doesn't go into deficiencys that much(or at all I should day), but it goes over his style of growing in pretty good detail.
