Cooltube - fan - filter order?

Hi guys! I was just thinking about setting up a grow cab with a cooltube. How bad is it putting the fan to suck through the cooltube? Is it guaranteed failure?

Was thinking of a cab 1m x 60cm and 180cm tall (3 feet x 2 feet x 6 feet tall). Setup as follows:

-------> Scrubber----> 1m (3 feet) duct-----> 400w cooltube -----> 2m ( 2 feet) sound proof duct ------> 130m3/h (77CFM) duct fan ------> 1m (3 feet) sound proof duct -----> OUT!

Was thinking as there is quite alot of duct that it might cool the air down on the way but on the other hand that amount of duct will half the suction power of the fan.

With quick calculations the entire air (1.3m3/ 77 feet3) of the cab would be sucked out every 1.5 minutes. Thats almost 1 CF going past the bulb every second! Wouldnt think this much air can be heated that much.

The reason i wanna put the fan at the end is i can put it ontop of the cab in a soundproofed box (reason for that much duct) and not have to worry about noise.

Would this work, or is it the perfect recipe for destruction?

:tiphat:

400 hps. What kinda fan you using? When you say still can get warm, do you mean the air comming out?

Ive had a look at them, my cab has to be almost silent though... thats the problem, i guess i could make a sound proof case for one of them too.

The thing is i have the 77cfm fan and a 100cfm scrubber for it. So dont really want to get a new scrubber and fan. I could go for a 100cfm fan though.

How warm does it get in your cab? Too warm?

Sorry for the bad unit conversions (writing from europe). =D

summer it has been 85F which is too high for me.

anytime you add a carbon filter it restricts airflow regardless of the cfm rating. my setup is in a different room of the house and if i close the door you cant hear it. depending on the air temp in my house, i can usually keep my tent around 74F. im an environmental control freak :)

Yeh i had the restriction counted in my values. I live in an apartment, with occasional guestst who i cannot have wondering what the noise comming from my wardrobe is.

85 would be a bit high, especially as ill have other herbs and plants in my cab too. Ill be aiming for 75 - 80.

Well, i guess ill give it a try. If things get too hot ill get a bigger fan. If my fan breaks from the heat... ill get a bigger fan. =)

I hear S&P's run real quiet maybe you should look into getting one of those? Inlines are loud though, not getting around it, I have mine in the other room and if the door is cracked I hear it, not too too loud but if no other noises are being made you can hear it

have you thought about a fish tank? I bring my koi in and the sit right next to my room covers up and gives people a reason for the air pump noise.

Noobian: I have no idea what S&P´s are. I live in the ass of europe, could you maybe gimme a link... google isnt helping.

Jr.grower: Haha, yeh ive thought about something like that... have so much work with the plants already and no more room to be honest. Im not too god with fish either. =( Maybe ill have to make a pc stealth grow that can just make noise as a normal computer would to mask everything else. xD

Anyone tried making a box around the fan and insulating it with something?

Soler and Palau. Made in Canada. They make a series called the mixvent which combined the benefits of a axial (hi flow) and a centrifigal (hi static pressure).

I have the 4" and while it's not silent, it's damn quiet. Has 2 speed settings. Paid $74 online from ventingdirect.com

Highly recommended
