White Russian origin question...

Since smoking White Russian a couple years ago I always wanted to try it again. Serious Seeds offers it with this description:

"These seeds produce plants that are fantastic in both appearance, and effect. Our most typically indica strain, White Russian is a stable cross of AK-47 and White Widow (a prize winning indica clone). Medium height, consistent plants and dense, very resinous flower tops (crystals appear after about 5 weeks of flowering)..."

So is this the Cup Winning White Widow which is now known as Black Widow, or is it the White Widow we commonly know today, available from many seed banks? I'm thinking it's the Black Widow...

Any help or insight is much appreciated :)

I herd Simon say that the white widow he uses in the WR cross is from the origional white widow and worked with all his white widow and chose which one whe wanted to work with.

Thanks Grimr3efer & jm420.

The reason I asked was I thought of just getting some WW and AK47 and making my own cross, for about the same cost. But I think in this case it'll be better to go for the real deal and leave the breeding to the pro's :)

I'm doing these outside this year, looking forward to them. I grew both AK47 and White Widow last year and thought about making the cross too, but decided against it. Cant wait to see these babies outside. I get the feeling they're gonna get BIG

White Russian contains the genes from original GreenHouse WhiteWidow but from when Shanti was still THE BREEDER there...when he left he took WW's parent plants with him so if you want original WW(as used by Simon to make WR) you need to get BlackWidow from Shanti at MR.NICE SEDS. If you want WR (not your own SIMILAR BUT DIFF version of it) I suggest you buy it from Serious not try to recreate it as It wont be as simple as crossing your two faves from each strain...Simon is an Experienced Pro breeder and WR was no accident.... Doing the cross yourself would be fun and would produce Excellent plants also...But they wont be like Simons WR unles you are Very lucky as well as skilled in breeding and selection. BTW I am not trying to put you off your own Dusting work(I would never do that) just trying to be honest with you....Luck and Lumens JBo ;]

Cool man thanks for the reply, +Rep. I'd love to get some Black Widow also, but I guess that's been out of stock for a while.

Yeah I smoked some in Amsterdam last fall, from Het Ballontje, and it wasn't anything special. But it was nowhere near as resinous and funky as the WR I smoked here in Finland a couple years ago, which was homegrown and had even hermied, and was chopped a little early. Not the first time that A'dam bud was a disappointment (seems to be a trend these days if you don't know where to look).

Here you go dude. Awesome plant; very strong smoke, huuuge yields. That said I would never run them outside again, mold city.

I don't know if Simon ever specifically said where he got the widow he used. I have a suspicion it was the 98 AWW but thats just a guess.

Mold city you say? Whereabouts do you live? I live in the mountains in Trinity county and its does get kinda cold and wet a bit earlier than some places, so thats definately something for me to think about. Also, how early were they done in your location?

Serious' white russian was the first seeds i picked up about 4 years ago.
out of 11 seeds i had 6 females- 2ak47 phenos 3 very similar WR phenos. and one Freak white widow pheno (which i lost). the freak pheno, was extremely low yeilding in comparison to the rest. but she had more trichs than any other. she reminded me of Kromes WHITE clone. insane resin productions. but alass i was retared and didnt take cuts, and ened up reveging out all but the freak didnt make it. :( oh well learned my lesson.

over all i was very happy with the white russian. very good meds. good yield, and easy to grow. be on the look out for that freak pheno i know its out there, that ww clone must have been amazing looking.

I grew out white russian last year and I have a pack going now a few weeks from flowering. I got 3 different phenos last time, all pretty good but one was very resinous. I couldn't get enough of the taste too, I think it was a white widow leaning pheno.

I have high hopes for these current 11, and I'll make sure to update the board with the results.

I believe it was in a soft secrets interview that he revealed it was the cut from the 1995 winning cannabis cup strain. That would have been the shantibaba widow.

I crossed a Serious seeds male AK47 with a DP white widow several years ago, and have given away hundreds of seeds of it over the years, and grew it a few times my self. It is a great cross, better than either of the parents. It grew huge buds, and had a great high. I also found it to be very easy to mold while drying down (outdoors) Also had to keep an eye out for budrot on the outdoor girls as well. But she does get crazy heavy, and if you are on top of it finishes up by October 1st up here in the north. Grow her where she has room to breathe, and avoid wet woodlands.

The seed stock I started with was from Late 2002. So I imagine it may be a different result if you replicate it now. But maybe not.
