I love journey - faithfully(for those that like ballads)
or dont stop believing

NO, NO, NO! NO ballads!!!!! I'm talking hard rocking, up-tempo, straight-ahead, driving beat, devil's music, rock and roll. Don't make me have to disqualify you.

And as much as I love Floyd, I don't think anything they've ever done qualifies as "pure" rock and/or roll.

Pick most any song off "Never Mind The Bullocks, Here's The Sex Pistols". It's always in the top 3 to 5 of 100 or 500 top album lists, usually right behind "Sgt. Pepper's" and "Exile On Main Street." You have to get past the aspect that it makes fun of everything so the lyrical value isn't premium, other than humor and angst. The vocal quality is probably the most arguable part of the musical genius of the album but instrumentals are still basic, fundamental, (pure) rock. It's just punk flavored with lyrics, vocal style and stage/public personas.

I've heard the argument the Pistols were a product, not unlike the Monkeys. These guys didn't play that game and their musical ability and recording techniques were genuine.

isn't that a personal opinion? i mean why can't an individual think that a ballad captures the essence of all that is rock and roll? or metal or punk for that matter?

Why yes it is (a personal opinion). Thanks for asking. :tiphat: But I asked the question, so I get to make the rules.
