grozone temp 2v

i use one for a 6" vortex. i have it set on the fastest speed when the temp drops below 80 and no hum. that setting knocks it down to maybe 75% speed. i tried even lower, i don't remember if i tried the slowest, but there was no hum. tomorrow i can check for you

I hope no hum. I would rather buy this since I would not save much cash making my own and this one has warrenty. I don't care for the on/offs I like to maintain neg pressure on room during dark for smell.

yea me too.
just checked, on the slowest speed, no hum, and that was like 25% or something low
like i said, i keep it at the highest speed, so i'd say its 75%
i had some mold on my last grow, otherwise i would lower it to 50%, or if noise was an issue, but its not

I have one sitting here somewhere but stopped using it as it was making the fan do some weird things especially just when the temp was about the reach the desired level. It would make the fan come on and off speed up and down repeatably. I didn't think this was too safe so got a new one, it did the same thing. Not taking my chances I haven't used it since.

Actually that was the 1V the 2V must be a newer design and it looks improved.

how do you control fan speed with the 1v? if you couldn't control the speed, what speed would it go to once it got cool enough in your room?
im guessing you should have raised or lowered the temp you had it set at, as the temp in the room was right at that level you had it set at. if it were to kick in full blast it would go below, and not on it went above. i have no idea, just a guess

The fan would slow right down and then speed up problem is unlike the 2V it didn't have a min speed setting so the speed would be all over the place but there were times where the fan would go up and down - up and down - up and down which really didn't sound good for the fan. I think they built the 2V with the min speed as they realized the 1V was going what I described.

If you look at he pdf file for the tv1

Enables a much tighter and precise temperature curve. When ON/OFF controls usually yields a variation over 5°F / 3°C, TV1 will yield a variation below 2°F / 1°C.

Thats why fan speed up and down more often it is factory set to tight mode. Change it to soft more and u should not have problem anymore

Reading the DIY thermostatic controller thread got me looking for the parts

I used one to control an 8" max fan and it hummed loud at speed settings low to high. The hum was louder than the the rushing air sound that it cured. Also, I blame it for overheating my fan, which led to a shut down and 99* tempts in my room. By the way- it doesn't actively control fan speed- it just switches between full speed and a lower user defined speed based on user defined temp thresholds.

I just ordered mine. I have a cap valueline 8, a can-fan 6 and max fan eight. I will try on all. The cap valueline and can-fan say speed controllable gonna look at paperwork for max 8.

You would have to get a real VFD to be true temp and speed control. These things are just a photocell, a speed contoller and a line voltage thermostat with a 6'foot cord. It uses the relay in the thermstat to bypass the speed controller.

any update on how this thing works with your fans?

I have a couple laying around, but I have to admit I've yet to use them on my S&P MixVents. The Mix-Vents say they are controllable with the Speedster style units (I think they cut off part of the AC wave form to limit power to the fan for controlling speed), so I'd expect it would work ok with those or the 2v's.
