hello all,

What's your opinion/experience about giving the ladies this london very hard tap water when using soil??

Is the 24h rest enough to make it usable?

Thanks a lot

I use it in soil......no real problems I can really attribute to it.

Chalkier the further south you get...plenty chalky where I am....no bad thing for soil....plenty of Cal. (and Mg?)

Should be fine, I used straight London Tap for NFT with no problems for ages.

There are quite a few different waters in London though, they are all different. It depends on which valley/water Co/area you get it from, added to the fact that it varies in quality and content over time.

Alot of it is a really hard water area, everytime I visit I notice the difference in taste and feel. It's horrible if you're used to very soft. You could maybe pick up a hard water nute line, like plant magic or something similar, i think its aimed at the hardwater areas of the uk. you could use a RO system also. It's possible you might get mg lockout due to high calcium, epsom salts will help with that. Or you could move SW and have 0 ppm from the tap:whee:

Growth Technology's Optimum nutrient works very well for London... I forgot, it frequently does not need pH down and the buffers work just right for the water mix there.

Just dont drink the stuff.. lol

I don't see the logic in not drinking it yourself but giving it to your girls?

I only give mineral spring water, but then again i only grew one so it was only a couple extra quid per week, tesco do 98p for 5ltrs scottish spring water, im sure if i had a room full of girls id think twice about buying water... i used to give brita filtered but to be honest i dont even drink that stuff i only use it for steaming veggies.

The tap water where i live stinks, but hey, at least we got running water ;)

LOL.... I keep on remembering bits and pieces, a very handy friend uses a blend with Highland Spring on all his very happy clones, it is low pH, so he uses the right ratio to bring the pH where he wants it with no extra chemicals.

If I used RO, this is how I would go, pure RO seems to get complex pH problems due to the lack of remaining Carbonates buffering the solution, but using a part, as a pH-, seems to work well from what ppl say.

Haha,, ^^ :D

RO water also removes beneficial micro-nutrients such as calcium.

If you cannot drink the tap water it indicates one of two things:

1) The water contains harmful pathogens.
2) The water has been treated with excessive levels of chlorine.

In either case it would be advisable to either invest in an RO machine... or move garden.

Hope this helps :D
