Same Seedlings, New Leaf Problems... Pics.

Hey Everybody.

I very recently had a sick plant thread with these same seedlings... im pretty sure it was a phosphorus deficiency. However i also learned that i had been overfeeding all my plants and using improper ratios of grow and bloom (pbp).

I was given a link to angelfire.com where i used the nutrient ppm ratio ml/gal calculator.

i learned according to mel franks charts exactly how many ml/gal of what i should be giving them during each stage.

4ml grow and 6 ml bloom for first two weeks.
12ml grow and 12 ml bloom for vegging
15ml bloom + some pk boosters for flowering (opposed to the 47ml/gal i was givin' my flowering ladies)

well i flushed out my 40 seedlings and i started watering them with the corrected nutrient ratio.

they have been growing well and most of them look pretty good. Some times it is hard to tell if there having problems again or if there is just still left over leaf damage.

The problem i had before though was a phosphorus deficiency looking thing ( due to not enough bloom nutes and also not adjusting my ph... was probably really low)

that has seemed to stop. But some of the plants are displaying much lighter colors in the inner middle of the newest growth. i have 11 different strains so it makes things a little difficult to compare.

some strains have this going on. some dont at all. some got it bad and some just a little.

ive been using tap water so im not adding calmag. im gonna get a R/O filter and switch to R/O with the calmag again.

im using my 1/3 perlite, 1/3 peat moss and 1/3 top soil mix with 1/2 cup of epsoma starter plus (for ben bacteria & fungi) per 3 gal of the media.

heres one big big issue im hoping some one can help me out with. I just started using my HANNA all in one monitor ph/tds/temp.

it seems like i can never get a consistent reading with it. i have 3 18 resivours and each 3 gal bucket has an adjustable dripper. each 18 gal res had 10 gal of tap water with 10ml/gal of pbp grow and 10ml/gal of pbp bloom. 5ml/gal of AN Nirvana...(very low k value everything else is... well i dont even know..) directions say to use as an additive at 15-20ml/gal during veg and im only using 5 ml/gal. also 1 drop per gallon super thrive.

when i stick the meters in the res i get one reading... then if i go 2 inches deeper i get a rating of 2 points higher pH!!! WTF!! very frustrating. also sometimes ill just be holding the probes steady and the pH will be jumping around all over the place....

is pH that hard to measure? i have a power head in each res that constantly stirs the nutes around and throws a bunch of bubble in there.

is my pH probe bad? i just figured it should be easy... u but in the probe and it gives you a reading.. but mine will jump around... it varies greatly with the depth of which you hold the probes at. i don't know what to trust or... i wanna pull my hair out.

in the instructions that come with my monitor it says to store the probe in the protective cap with a couple drops of a storage solution that of coarse they didn't include with my meter.

so Ive just been storing the probe with tap water in the cap? could this be my problem?

if you know the kind of pH measuring problem i am having and know a method or technique either of measuring or of maintenance of the probe that i need to be doing to get a good consistent reading. please tell me.

So here are some updated pictures of my seedlings which are now a good 5-6 weeks old. in there new home. 4x8 tent with two digital 600 hps. they all got a mod scrog screen over them.

This is my one DWC experiment. i was in a red party cup with my soil mix and i surrounded it in perlite after carefully cutting many large holes for the roots to grow through. its been 2-4 days and the roots have not grown out of the net pot yet. also as u can see. its having a serious leaf problem where the new inner growth is like.. bleeched. Cal or mag def? this is r/o water with 5ml per gal of cal mag soo... i dunno whats wrong. 5.8 ph ( i hope my meter is right) and 4.5 ml of pbp grow and bloom per gal.

Heres one of the normal seedlings in the 1/3 perlite 1/3 vermiculite and 1/3 top soil mix. being watered from the res. its kind of got the inner bleached growth thing goin on but its very subtle i dont know if its nothing or the start of a problem.

This is a mk-ultra seedling that is the only plant in the room out of 30 having this particular problem.... the bleached look... the twistie crooked leafs... i dont know whats wrong with it.. there is another mk ultra in the room and its not doing this. (also from seed (feminised))

so i know i side tracked a bunch and im all damn over the place and i got all sorts of problems so i apologize for being so disorganized. If any one can help with with that ph meter issue or any of these leaf problems, many thanks to you.

Also if any body could tell me how to get my own damn picture for my avatar. that be awesome too. i messed around in there for a while but i could find an option.

Can you put some pics up without the hps light on?

When you got your meter, did it come with calbration fluid? you get 2 different bottles of pH to calibrate it,,,,,,

is all this being affected on the top growth?

what lighting are these under? are these starting to flower?
Were they under light that was weaker? Like fluros and moved to HPS?

Stitch - Hey buddy. Yes my meter came with 3 packets of solution. one reads 4.1 and the other reads 7.1 and the other is a conductivity solution. 1413 us/cm but its not a u, some character that isn't available on the keyboard.

the one picture of the tiny gal in the 5gal dwc... (red cup with the perlite around it.
you can see really well the problem im talking about.... but non of the soil soil plants have it that bad.

only a few of the soil plants are showing minimal sign of the same thing where the middle of the new growth looks bleached out.

then ofcoarse i have to the mk-ultra that looks like that all over the plant hand also has skinny twisty leaves. its the only plant that looks like that though.

.
These are under two digital 600w hps and theyre still vegging. each plant has a sqft peice of chicken wire over it and i want it to fill a good half the screen before i flip. some are gettin there and some are still behind a bit. but yes they were all under 16 26w 6500k cfl's before the hps. (4 days ago now).

ill try to grab some pics with out the hps and get em up.

Ya, I would have to see pics to see what you are talking about, since alot of confusion can happen without pics :)

Very likely that ph pen is doing you in. A couple of starters. You really need a storage solution , you can use the 4.01 (recommend) in its place for a short while. The hydro shop will tell you to use the 7.01 or tap, DO NOT use either. They will have a corrosive action against the electrode in the pen.

It need to be stored UPRIGHT with this solution ( more then a couple of drops, fill the little top and put it on and just allow it to over flow. Till you get the idea how much.)

It needs to sit in this solution for 12 -24 hrs before being calibrated ( recommend)

Calibrate it when ever you notice anything unusual.

Get it a soft tooth brush!!! Once a week or so (I usually turn on my pen and if it reads .2 off i know my storage solution is going bad....) empty the cap full of storage solution clean it out and GENTLY clean the tip or probe. Repeat GENTLE! They are porous and can break / be damaged.

With this method i keep my pen very accurate and they don't ''drift'' anymore.

Ps I think a half dose of cal/mag with your water would clear up any of the fluctuating ph lockouts/ deficiencies. But you got to get the ph under control.

Once you got it , it will always be the same. Example in my f&D table 40 gall rez 11 mill ph down every time brings to .2 of where I want to be.

Hope that helps.:comfort:

w.p. - hey man thank you. that was the kind of ph pen intro info i was looking for.

so if i store some 4.01 in there for 24 hrs and turn it on it should read 4.01... and then i calibrate it? or thats how you calibrate it? im going to read the intruction for calibrating but please feel free to comment on it anyways. thanks again.

stitch- hey the plants have changed so much by now taking pics at this point wouldn't make any sense the little one in the dwc looks like its gonna be alright and most the others look generally alright as well. there are some that look to be having some lock outs due ph but i should have it fixed soon.

thanks for lookin guys.

No problem. Yes and No. It should read 4.01 but till you calibrate it it probably won't. Store it over night , then calibrate it (with fresh solution of course.....) Any other Q's:tiphat:
