Coco First Timer: 400w in a DR80 tent

Thanks Dman!

I decided today to swap out the cmh with a hps to finish out the run. It is a 400w hortilux with enhanced blue spectrum. It also gave me a chance to clean the hood's glass. Not too dirty but there was some dustyness going on.

WEEK 4

WEEK 4

So I'm about a week behind in my updates. My laptop was tied up last weekend with a bunch of massive data transfers so I didn't get a chance to post my week 4 update.

I still have not completely eradicated the fungus gnats and still see the occasional adult flying around. I would say the problem is contained though and dont expect any issues from them. I have also found spots of PM on the LSD plant over the course of the past week and a half. The LSD plant seems to be the only one with the problem. I have been hitting the areas with serenade as I see it, and it does seem to be going away as there has been less and less. I am concerned with the bit of rain we are expecting this week as the humidity will rise for sure. I do have a dehumidifier in the room that I will hook up if the RH goes over 50%.

So for week 4, the girls got fed 3ml micro and 9ml bloom. In week 5 I dropped the micro and bumped up the bloom to 12ml. I started week 5 with 5ml of liquid kool bloom, but after 3 days I noticed the slightest bit of burn on the tips of some leaves on the plants, so I dropped the kool bloom for the rest of the week.

So now on to the pics from week 4. They were taken on day 28 I believe.

Overall they are looking fantastic, and this is by far the healthiest run I have had in over year and maybe even ever!

I plan on shooting pics for week 5 tonight after work and will try to update tonight or tomorrow. so stay tuned!!!

WEEK 5

WEEK 5

As promised, here is my week 5 update to catch things back up to real time.

today is day 34. Less PM on the LSD (still hitting trouble spots with serenade), but the gnats are trying to mount a comeback on the ECSD. I hit them with a dose of GoGnats one last time. The sticky traps will have to do the rest of the work until harvest.

I dropped the feed down to 9ml bloom only as the tip burn is getting a bit pronounced. Not sure if the burning is indicative of anything other than overfeeding. Any ideas? Salt buildup? The coco is definitely staying moist between feedings. Maybe a flush with plain water? It's not too bad yet, but something to keep an eye on.

well, the girls look good regardless...

luckily things are secure and odor control is not a major issue, cuz these girls are stinking through my carbon filters at times....in an incredible great way!

sick!, do you like that MH that you use? it kept those plants at perfect stance but thats also cuz of your great SCing. the only part i dont like in my head is the less lemens part. never used a MH before only enhanced HPS

nope sorry? just looked at week 4 now your back at HPS?? do u always switch them during bloom? i think ive heard somewhere finishing them with mh will give better resin?? do u switch back??

I LOVE the CMH bulb. It is a philips mastercolor hps retro fit ceramic metal halide.

I dont always switch to hps, it depends on the weather.

I usually switch to the hps mid flower when temps are on the cooler side (fall and winter). My plants usually finish with fatter buds when I do this. In the warmer months, I stay with the cmh for the lower temps it puts out. I have heard that finishing with a mh bluer spectrum bulb increases resin also, but have never actually tried it. Maybe I will this time. Maybe for the last week to week 1/2.

cool! keep it postin! i like the idealogy of when to use a certain bulb depending on season. heat is always an issue for me!

same for me. I have to be very selective on strains in the spring and summer months. They have to tolerate and thrive in the heat. I've had some success, but sometimes the heat is too much and the quality of my harvests leave a LOT to be desired.

I almost always LST. Never had any stressed plants using this technique. Same with supercropping. Most branches I supercrop recover in a day or two, but the lower branches always keep growing to catch up to the tallest pinched branches.

topping is another story. I dont do it very much anymore. I have stunted plants using this technique setting them back as much as 2-3 weeks. I have also found that branches that result from the topping tend to be flimsier and need extra support once buds start filling in. The only time I ever top is when I am vegging a plant for more than 6 weeks and will only do it very early on, at least 3 weeks before flower.

Thank you. so where are you supercropping and pinchin your branches at? Id like to try this with one of my next grow.

yea i think ill go with lst next time around along with needed supercropping. topping has always stunted for me, even stunted flower initiation too id say. supercroping repairs itself in 2 days so?

its a skill i suppose. u need to be able to visualize which branches need to grow further and which need to halt growth for 2 days and also which direction to supercrop (break) the branches in. the direction is very important IMO because u can either fill out or crowd in a canopy!

Usually on the stem half way between the top and the next budsite down. Sometimes I do it a little further down if a branch is shooting up a lot faster, then I try to pinch it and bend it over so that it sits even with the rest of the canopy.

I guess basically, the goal is to keep the canopy as even as possible. I take the same approach with LST.

2 days or less. Sometimes on vigorous plants, the branch I pinch is back up in a matter of hours! On the sour d I am growing now, I accidently ripped a hole through the stem while pinching, and the branch was back up in less than two hours. I could see right through the hole in the stem. I will have to remember to shoot a pic of it on my nest update in a couple days.

WEEK 6

WEEK 6

wrapped up week 6 and now in the home stretch.

GoGnats proved to be not as effective as it seemed. The Gnats are proving to be quite a nuisance so I will be sprinkling some mosquito dunks on the top soil before I water tonight.

I still find the occasional tiny patch of PM and have started treating it with a H2O2 / water / dishsoap mix to hit trouble spots for the rest of the grow.

Overall things are good though. For week 7 I will start the girls off on 9ml bloom and 5-7ml Kool bloom per gallon a day and see how they react. Chances are at some point this week I will swap the hps back out for the cmh to finish the plants off.

and now pics from Day 42....

Thanks Guys!

I'm nearing the end of week 7. Still feeding 9ml bloom and 7ml koolbloom. Last night I swapped the hps out for the cmh bulb. I should have some more pictures up in a couple days.
