GE/Philips HPS bulbs. Any good?

I have 3 400w HPS lights in my setup.

I've been buying solarmax bulbs at ~$50 a pop.

It's time to replace the bulbs but I'm sick of paying $150+ for 3 bulbs.

I can buy in bulk (12 of these for $160) and just change them every couple cycles. http://www.1000bulbs.com/400-Watt-HPS/40283/

Has anyone else done this? noticed different results? other recommendations?

just looking to shave some costs off the grow.

Peace!

flat5th,
Hey guy, you must be a musician. Your name reminds me of a music store I used to go to in Minneapolis. Bsharp music.

Just wanted to express a few thoughts re your query. First off, I use cheap bulbs...cheapest ones I can find and am happy with what I grow. I think it's a matter of how finely tuned your grow is. If everything is tweaked perfectly and you still want to improve...then the high buck lamps are the way to go.

But if you're an average grower just wanting some good ganja to smoke...the generic bulbs are good enough. For what it's worth.

Haha. Yessir. Musician til death.

I am infact just looking for a bulb with decent performance. My grow is pretty well tuned, a few heat issues now and then. But otherwise it's just keeping it all maintained.

It's good to hear that cheap bulbs are usually A-OK. Infact, all the research i've been doing leads me to believe many (but not all...) bulbs are the same, just rebranded.

Well, looks like i'll order a case of these and be set for the next few years.

haha.

Too bad they don't post prices.

I've used GE lamps and I'm about to buy a few more. Sylvania and GE are pretty much all I run, but I'm planning on trying out a Philips lamp in a few weeks. My 2x400HPS are used for vegging. FWIW, I didn't really notice a functional difference between a $50 Grolux and a $10 Sylvania in this application.

i use the general electric (GE) lucalox, but the 600's(get them cheap from a mate)
pretty much the same as a son-t plus.....but they tend to have "extra output" on the box , rather than son plus
