Hello All,

My first day here at IC mag and I am wondering if anyone could shed some light on my problem. I am running a 600 watt MH HPS conversion light. Right now I am just running the MH which is very HOT! So I wanted to see if any of you peeps out there had any ideas on how to vent out a window with out light coming in.(obv. for flowering stages) Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Some little top windows can be replaced with a pane of glass with a fan If you ducted to this you would have no light leeks growing in a tent

ok, can you explain it a little more in detail as to what you are trying to do, b/c the way i see it, this is a VERY easy solution...but i don't want to get into it if you are actually wanting something more...b/c to vent out of that is nothing hard at all!

FWIW...i just feel like i'm taking a test, and i';m scared to mark the answer (even though its correct) b/c i feel its to much of a "gimme"...lol

honestly...its not even that complicated...but i just want a little more clarification as to exactly it is the OP wants to do.

Its really as easy as using panda plastic and ducting...

Hello MrHempStar, welcome aboard!

I have vented out a window before, lightproof. Here is what you can do:

1. Take a single, large, thick cardboard box, cut a side and break it down so it's flat and expanded and will cover the entire window. Cardboard should cover entire window plus a few inches to work with.

2. Open window so it's locked in at only 4-6 inches high, whatever size exhaust you run. Shut your blinds so they completely closed and all the way down.

3. Using aluminum tape (careful, it's sharp), tape cardboard over window. Leave a space at the bottom left or right (whatever's most suitable) beside where the window is open untaped. This is where we attach the exhaust. The rest of the edges should be taped to be air and light proof.

4. Attach your exhaust TO THE SIDE of the cardboard. Going inside between the cardboard and blinds leaves an indention on the blinds, so the side is the best. Pull the cardboard out so the exhaust duct just does go under, then use aluminum tape to secure. There will be gaps on top of and below the duct. Use aluminum tape to close these gaps (sometimes it will take a lot for it to be perfect). Properly installed the duct is air tight inside the cardboard.

5. Next, take a heavy, dark blanket and wrap as much of the duct as you can close to the exhaust. You can tape the blanket so it holds itself on. The cardboard is already light-proofed, but if you don't take this step, you will be able to see a little bit of light coming through the duct at the side.

There you have it. Venting out a window with stealth, air and light tight.

Feel free to ask questions. Wish I had pictures to show.

Do you have a heater vent in the room?

If so

What if it is an AC vent? Wont this make it vent through to the rest of the house? Are you using a carbon filter of some sort? If it is really as simple as hooking into my central air I will be blown away. It just seems to good to be true? What are the down sides?

Ahh well if you use the AC, then no, hot air blowing in to your ducts might not be good. we don't have AC, and if anything the heat will just dissipate. I did this since I did not want to vent out of my front window, and it's the only option I have.

But I am thinking about putting in a can ceiling light in the closet, then I can vent in the attic and it can be covered with a light when I move.

Right now there is no smell, so no, but yes I do have one that I can use. And the smell of me smoking all the time, well, there is little point. ;)

Down sides...hummm could heat up your house, and smell, but you can try it, if is does not work remove the tape. No harm I can think of.
