Hey planty. Sounds like ya should have a nice garden. I experimented in adding coco to my big planters last year and saw great results- very fast growth and no fusarium probs.

Yes aeration is important. I'm putting 4 cu grade 4 perlite per planter and using Sunshine Mix #4 as my base...should be plenty aerated.

yeh.. keep the perlite. i'm planning 10% perlite.. the FF LightWarrior stuff.
what's #4 the chunky stuff?? herrd good things about that but I don't get it, imho.

Light Warrior is perlite now? Last I looked it was a weak attempt at a soil less mix...At least that's just the Light Warrior here in Humboldt.

Fox Farm Chunky Perlite is equiv to Grade #3...Grade 4 is on par with lava rock

P

Sunshine Mix #4 is 30% perlite..Grade 2...My planters are 46 cubic feet and I'm adding 4 cu extra perlite..So I think I'll be around 40% perlite of various grades in my blend...highly aerated.

Again..Why 25%? Where did you get that number and how was it determined? What brand? Bricked? Loose? Long strand corase, blended, chunks?

Be more specific..don't just roll through the thread for my garden and make a bunch of posts to up your count..at least contribute some dialog.

Fisher15 - Looked through your thread , good luck this year hope you have another season with monsters.

told u i was goofing..
if ur doing 30-40% perlite, I guess you could do without..
you won't get the cation exchange thing going, but in a soil mix the idea is to get that aeration..
thought the mere mention of that term might count for dialogue..

I didn't know u were rolling with that much chunky stuff.. that ought to do the job.

25% Seriously? I told you I was goofing..
I'm no coco guru. It seems like enough to receive a benefit.
I'll be rolling with 40%....Again, because it seems like enough.

Ya didn't know I was rollin with that much chunky stuff? I mentioned numerous times I planned on using Grade 4 perlite...If you didn't know what that was and did not try to find out it isn't my fault I had to tell you that Grade 4 perlite and coarse lava rock are comparable

Cation Exchange Thing? Do you even know what CEC is? All media has it Coco, Hydroton, peat moss, perlite, mixes of peat moss and perlite amended with organic matter...they all have a cation exchange capacity..so what CEC Thing will I be missing out on? As far as I knew coco and potassium don't play nice...something essential to my flowers life cycle...

I really want to know why you think I should use 25% EXACTLY coconut coir and more importantly what type and brand I should use... Also want to know why you'd suggest 25% when you're going to use 40? How'd you determine that number (40%) and why? And 25% for me..and why...

A term that is achievable in numerous ways(aeration) consisting as dialog? Maybe we have a different definition of dialog..To me is to exchange ideas and increase my understanding of a subject.

Please start yer own thread if ya wanna goof or whatever..I'm actually gettin my grow on this year and lookin to share ideas and practices with those doing the same...I don't know what you're doing but the way it reads, you're just throwin things ya read on this board around vaguely just to post..Please stop doin it in my thread.

Lots of coir in the Roots soil I used for OD09.

SANCHEZ: enough with the drunken posting already. Maybe go check out a Winoes for Jesus forum.

You seem like just the person who could help guide me for this summer's grow. So far for my indoor ive been using the 10 part soiless organic mix from the organic thread: 5 parts peat, 3 parts ff chunky perlite, 2 parts worm casting, lime, and my own addition of crab shell. Ferted with bat guano/worm casting/seabird teas. I know that wont fly for outdoors, I would need a new garage just to house teas.
My first attempt at outdoor last summer was miserable. Started really late, kept in 5 gallon pots and was hit with pm and caterpillars. finally rid of the pm (like an idiot i grew cucumbers) and learned of the wonders of spinosad for cats.

I have a 20'x40' plot layed out in the back yard. The goal was to make 6 rows of 5' x 20' raised beds housing 4 plants in each (5'x5' x 18" high). Just transplanted clones under 1000 wt mh. So heres my questions for you:

1) Why the smart pots? At that size I always figured a raised bed would be the same.

2) With your soil mix, when do you feed at what stage and with what?

3) Would it be better to divide the 5x20 rows to keep seperate root zones?

4) Where do you get the #4 perlite?

5) Do you start from seed or clone?

6) Do you start clones inside? What light regimine?

I know its a bombardment of questions. Where I live is the land of the indoor og kush. Definitely not a good source for a proper outdoor grow. Last years outdoor I grew afgan kush, hindu kush, thai/ssh and gods gift. My Hindu kush #7 plant was the only one immune to the pm so its being kept along with my thai which although looks land racey still flowers in about 8 weeks. I have a connect up north for some bubba k, was wondering if its worth the run?

Thanks for the help man.

They are the same

2) With your soil mix, when do you feed at what stage and with what?

They get different things at different time according to temps, light, age...

3) Would it be better to divide the 5x20 rows to keep seperate root zones?

Yes. Think about how the plants grow. 5x5 beds on 14-16' centers is what you want..wider beds if possible.

4) Where do you get the #4 perlite?

Spare Time Supply, Willits CA

5) Do you start from seed or clone?

Clone. I want to do some seeds this year too.

6) Do you start clones inside? What light regimine?

Root and veg under T5s 18/6 light cycle NEVER letting them get root bound, Moving to green house ASAP (hopefully by mid April) under 16/8 .. Final containers 6/01 with lighting moved out in to the yard till 6/22.

OG Kush is bomb smoke. If PM is a problem Bubba may not be a good idea..She gets PM and bud rot pretty easy if your spot promotes those types of conditions. If not...Bubba is good outdoor but genetics with a little more scoot will get you a better per plant average.

Thanks for the help man.

Have fun in the garden. I'm no pro but I've been around some for a minute and after last years learning experience, I'm ready to put out some trees that reflect my skill set..

hey planty how often did you have to water those 65gals? im going to be ordering the 200gals. one per plant. trying to estimate how often im going to have to visit. i figure with 200gals of soil i can create a very nice water retaining bed.

P

planty

I watered the 65s once a week heavily and every day with a lil something something to keep the media from getting too dry during the peak heat.. i had a late start last year since I dropped the ball with my first wave of ladies..

Planty... I don't think the thread is ruined. Keep on keepin on. Once my plants were exploding with growth in their 200's I fed/watered every 3 days or so. I tried to always feed something in each watering. bout 10-15 gallons per watering.

note: my soil mix was a little heavy and retained water more than I would have liked... i was not able to water/feed as often or as aggressively as I wanted to because the soil took too long to dry out. for anybody who is not able to tend their plants so often, a similar soil mix would beneficial.

P

Alright Nomaad...I guess I have to..between you , Julian , and HumboldtLocal lettin' me know sharing my work is appreciated I don't feel so bad to have it ruined by some one who doesn't even have a concept of the idea it takes to even get the soil to the grow site and planters filled... I'm just tryin to do big things and increase my skill set by rollin my ideas success and failures around with people that are doin the same or better than me!

I am going to give my ladies anywhere from 10-50 gallons per watering depending on whats going on in their 300s...which I have to wrap up ordering today.

They're like 75 retail...

If you really want to get some PM me and I'll throw ya a lil tip.
