Hi asa77sol!
That is a awesome looking micro cab there. I wish I had the time to learn how to put together my own led array. Good luck on the 1sq foot challenge!

If you are down to do some reading, another cool thing you can do with this setup is the Martian Method (aka Partial Artificial Darkness), it involves keeping the red light on 24/7... i have not found much good info about it on IC, but there are some good resources over on treating yourself dot com (is it against the forum rules to post a competing website? i read them I promise, but there was a lot and i got a little volcano going on), also Weezard on here knows a butt load about it
Could one re-create the same effect using one of those "party bulbs" @ home depot which are the colored cfl's? I believe 13w's a piece for about 3 bucks. I got some space in my pc I'm looking to fill, I have all 162 watts of cfl's all plugged into 2-6 outlet strips. Problem is that the housing for the light and the strip take up about 3.5 inches of valuable light space to add to.
The case is only 18x8x18 and being only 2 weeks into my grow I'm looking towards the future on how to maximize a lil micro sog action.

i think you might run into some trouble using party bulbs for the martian method. Even the colored CFLs emit a pretty wide spectrum, and there is a breaking point somewhere between the orange and yellow wavelength where the photochromatic effect will be destroyed, and the plant will revert back to veg

A 48V/1400mA MeanWell PowerSupply cost <25$.http://www.atysco.eu/en/products/show/1214
The white and the blue leds <4$(4+4 ->8x4=32$), the reds are 2,5$(24x2,5=60$)(Mouser, Farnel). Two constant current regulator for separate the 1400mA to 2x700mA circuit cost under $10. http://www.instructables.com/id/Circuits-for-using-High-Power-LED_s/Heatsink, fans and other materials: 20$.
Its all together 150$ if you have tools. If you havnt have to spend more 20$.
How much is the 63W penetrator?

I think I would like to take on this project. I was already considering PLLs, but perhaps i could add 40w or so of Red LEDs to the mix.

the penetrator is 275. not bad considering it would be instantly ready to set up and has a warranty. hmmmm.

Hmmmm? Whats mean hmmmm?
I think it would be interesting project if anybody compare the 63W penetrator with old chinese 1W leds opposite a DIY light with top bin Osram, Cree, Phillips or Edison leds. I know whats the better and you sad in the last post whats the cheaper. If you would build your own just read my last sig.

Apologize me LEDGirl if you read this post.
I dont want destroy your business but i think my grandmother also would be able to grow beautyful buds if she would used +10 126W lamps.
345W LED enough for 5'x5', the 3'x3' tent isnt challenge.
If the leds are would be evenly dispersed 205W led can cover 1m2 for flowering, but those not able if the leds are there in a small lamp.
Must to divide the leds on the surface and must use SoG technic for greater result than the hps and step over the 1,0g/W like many grower with DIY ledlamps.

I just fear I dont have the skills to make it. I have basic electrical knowledge, but I looked at your guide and it seems kinda tough. So you are saying these DIY LEDs are better? I figured if I could get the same result and not have to put work in, i'd pick the 63w Penetrator. but if you are saying the DIYs are better (and in what way are they better?) and that they would be cheaper, then it would be hard not to choose the DIY route.

hmmmm stands for the sound one makes when they are thinking about something.

seems like a waste unless your familar with that shit .. Not alot of people can build all this and trust for it to run for the next 10 years on the first time DIY. I think you will be surprised how squeaky clean LEDGirls business model is. I give those who build them credit! you can;t just whip up an led light your first electronic adventure ethier.

I hear $150 was the base price to build a copy of the 63w penatrator? man I hope you get it right, and it never burns down. Calculate out the hours it would even take me to build + the material... It would be a better deal to have her just put a professional unit at my doorstep.

Not that I wouldn't love to make a whole cab full of leds!!!!

asa77sol thanks for helping out here. English not being your native language, well props for that too.

I have the 63 watt penetrator and will add another in time, or maybe try your diy thingy. Weezard's 75 watt diy LED ran about $450 if I remember. Also, the 15 watt LED's are not available now. Knna will have his stuff out real soon too.

asa77sol , I certainly don't want to deture anyone from building thier own unit! to you it may seem easy! I bet you could hekp anyone that was dead set on building one! Guess if I was ever gonna build one it would have to be further down the road!

Didnt mean to come off the wrong way! It's no Secrect I am pro HGL, Trust me it's just becasue it's the best led unit I have tried!

When i built my first LEDlight one year ago i hadnt any elecronic experience or skill. Today i say that anybody able to build a lamp without any encounter if the people trust more in himself than someone else, than the chinese professional unit. You and MeanBean also can, no exception.
I am sure that the passive chilled LED wont die earlier than the chinese 6cm low-noise fans and the 1Wleds in the lamp.
If somebody want to count the workhours what spend to make the light but he can pay more 100$ this man wont build his own.

MeanBeam, if you are hps fan yo'll use hps. If you like the pink-purple color, the great result in small space and you hate the heat you'll use LEDs. If you want help anybody to show that 345W led able to replace the 400Whps on 4'x4' and it cost 5x than the most expensive hps price just do it. I dont want to conversion you or anybody but before you write a post about the DIY light building please read my last sign. If you do you'll know more about LEDs. All the best for LEDGirl and her business and for you.:thank you:
They looks better.

congrats on the recovery of your babies.

Ok, so I'm still trying to decide if I should get a pre-made unit or build 1. What are the LEDs knna is making supposed to offer?
and what do you mean by top-bin led? are you saying that the HGLs use inferior LEDs to what you are using?

if that is the case then I most certainly want to make my own, but if the HGL units supply the correct spectrums with good efficiency, I don't see what is wrong with them. Are you saying your DIY LEDs have more efficiency? or do you select different spectrums or something?
