I wouldn't recommend aeration when using FloraNova. Waterfall would be your best bet in this case.

If you're using refined mineral nutrients that mix more-or-less clear, I'd say go for it.

I aerate my water for sure. It helps get rid of chlorine in your tank. Plus my bubbler works wonders for cloning so it must be good for roots?? Just a thought. But ya roots need air that's one of the big arguements for coco which i don't use. And some people sware by smartpots which also help get air to roots. I don't know the scientific answer but the common sense one says it is a good idea. We create soil to be more aerated. Sure water only holds so much air, migth as well maximize it. Even spouts for watering have been designed to get more air into the water.

#1 it isn't chlorine, if you're in USA
#2 bubble it all you want; it won't remove the chloramine.

I don’t use an air stone as I feel it still doesn’t help with “settling” on the bottom of the rez. I have a pond pump that has an adjustable attachment that pops out of the top like a periscope. It sucks all the stuff from the bottom and re-circulates up to the top then drops back on top like a waterfall.

I just got a ceramic micro-pore diffuser that makes tiny bubbles (don ho style). I used to use a pump, but the bubbles mix fine. I also use the bubbles to filter in front of my spout for the tubing. Supposedly beneficial micros can help keep the ph stable. I keep a little bag of them in the rez at all times. My roots are definitely whiter and I bottom feed. BTW, about how the water gets oxygenated: It the time in contact with the water + surface area

Take a look at at the air bubbles produced by an aquarium aerator. Watch how quickly the bubbles rise to the surface. They provide little aeration, but are aesthetically pleasing to watch. Bubbles must remain contacting the water, if they are to do the job properly. A good rule of thumb is: The smaller the bubble, the longer it will remain suspended in water to dissolve.

Very small (micro-size) oxygen bubbles should dissolve faster than larger bubbles because of their greater surface to volume ratio, but all gas bubbles (air or oxygen) need some 'solubility space'. Without sufficient 'space' available for the bubbles to dissolve, tiny micro-fine bubbles may remain suspended within the water column, attach to surfaces, or slowly, rise to the surface. Of course, fish do not breathe (gaseous) oxygen or air bubbles, the oxygen must first be dissolved in water for it to diffuse across their lamellar membranes.

A waterfall is probably always more efficient than an airstone, but why do you specifically recommend not using airstones with non-refined mineral nutrient products?
