I'm sure it's been asked a million times, but what the optimal screen size to use when making a tumbler? Many thanks.

screens

I use 110 or 120 size screens . Im not sure if they would be considered optimal or not but they work well . I use the 120 more than the 110.
peace out

Ideal tumbler mesh sizes, depending on the rotating speed (RPM) of the cylinder and plant material used, would be within a range of 100 ~ 138 lines per inch, which is equivalent to 150 ~ 110 micron mesh... For example, mesh that has 120 lines per inch mesh is often labelled or referred to as "120 MESH" in the USA.

Many European countries (and others) usually refer to mesh in MICRON measurements (this is a metric measurement), that measure the exact distance between the threads (not how many threads per linear inch) This type of measurement is more accurate for our requirements as it tells us the exact hole size of the mesh. Micron mesh measurements are usually referred to with a number and the word MICRON or less commonly with a "u", for example, "150 MICRON" or "150 u"

100 Mesh = 150 Micron
120 Mesh = 125 Micron
135 Mesh = 110 Micron

Mature resin heads or trichomes on many modern hybrids usually vary in size from 50 ~110 micron in size.

I don't know about "optimal" but a good size mesh for tumblers that works well for most strains would be "110 MESH" ~ "125 MESH" which is roughly the same as " 135 MICRON" ~ "120 MICRON" mesh.

Can anyone post link to a supplier of the screen material, in the US would be easier,. I have all the parts to build a tumbler but can not find screen anywhere, I would prefer stainless, but silk will do........

Thanks fellas.

I ordered some 110 mesh. I have some 125 and 160 already, I'll use that for refining it:biggrin:.

Razor, not stainless but -http://www.dickblick.com/categories/screenprintingfabrics/.

Here is a conversion chart I found

Optimum screen size varies with strain, but I use 130 micron stainless for tumbling.

www.twpinc.com has a wide selection of stainless mesh, but has purchase minimums per size.

So how do you go about finding the right quantity for your drum? how much is to much? If my drum is 20" long and 10" in diameter, what kind of weight is recommended? Thanks.

A 10" drum has a 31.4" circumferance (Pi X Diameter).

What is the width of the roll that they must cut it from?

If it is a 36" roll, (1) square yard will do it with minimal trimming.

Not sure I understand your weight question.

Sorry Gray. I should have worded it different(stoner moment lol). How much plant material would be too much in there? My units done, I just couldn't find any retailers stating their drum length(only diameter) to compare capacity:dunno:.

I would go with the largest screen size, especially if you plan on ¨cleaning it up¨.

If you try and force the resin glands threw you will break and rupture them.

after 25 minutes of scanning the steel "wire cloth" at grainger (thanks to whomever posted that)

I got:

ITEM# 3AKR6....145X145 mesh...12"X12" size....opening size: 0.0047" = approx 121 micron
$6.36

ITEM# 3DLP8....200X200 mesh...12"X12" size....opening size: 0.0029" = approx 72 micron
$8.48

ordered one each from the grainger down the street, they say I should have them on monday

hope that helps the search weary, like myself
