IC Grow Gang,

After doing some research and reading and coming to terms with what I have been trying to deny for years... I am pretty sure I have Dyslexia.
One of my high school teachers back in the day mentioned and actually thought that I have a mild case of it. Now that I have a somewhat stable job, I think I am going to consult an expert or two to get more info about this disorder.

And well, I thought about throwing this out like a Frisbee to my peeps here on Icmag, Does anyone else have it here? Has anyone ever dealt with or experienced someone with this?

Like I said, after doing some research about this learning disorder I have realized that I do actually only thankfully (thank god) have only a mild case of this. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT IT IS LIKE FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS IT WORSE THAN ME, to say the least.

FYI tidbit: Henry Winkler (the actor) is Dyslexic.

In honor of the "forum" I now open this up to your feedback or the "forum" to discuss...

VOTE (I am curious and interested in YOUR responses)

I'm not dislexic , but have read up on it a little . For anyone wanting to know more , my post above is not what dislexia actually is . That was just an extreme exageration to what many people believe . Just kind of making light of the condition . No harm intended . The most common form of dislexia that I have heard about , is like a tunnel vision when reading where the words tend to trail off of the page . The person is literally only able to read one word at a time . Words at each end of the page get real big or small . There are other aspects of the condition when writing or typing where people who have it mix up letters and numbers which I'm sure leads to lower math & english scores should the teacher and/or student not be aware of the condition . Dislexia is an often overlooked condition that people need to be more aware of . Good thread .

More about what I experience

More about what I experience

Here are the major things I have to deal with:

1. My hand writing is rough. People have described it as "bad". When I write words they are often not straight or on the line. Some letters will be above the line, others right on, and some letters below.
2. I often must concentrate on numbers that have repetitive sequential numbers. For example: 55393 , 885751,322350. I easily can transpose numbers. Numbers will at times swim or seem out of focus, unless I deliberately focus and concentrate on the number. Which I often do to overcome this issue.
3. I use my hands to count at times and will triple check counting things like money. Or, another good example is when I play poker, I have difficulty seeing straights in Texas Hold'em. Either playing against the straight I have difficulty seeing it, or when I have a straight I often rely on counting with my hand or must go over the sequence in my mind several times to confirm to myself that I have it. I have memorized the "ends" of straights with face cards for example: Queen 8, Jack 7, and King 9 in an effort to help me.
4. I am not a good speller of words and I often doubt my spelling even though the spelling is correct. Some examples would be: perform vs preform, Exellent vs exelent, Possible vs posible, repetitive vs repatitive or mezzanine vs mesonine.
5. Complex math problems are challenging because of stress or concern about getting the right answer but also how I organize or break down the information on paper. Interpretation of the equation will get jumbled in my mind and my thoughts will race. I will often misplace data, write down answers wrong which I calculated correctly on multi step problems, use correctly calculated data in a portion of a formula in the wrong way in another part of the math problem or be off by a few decimal places for example.
6. At times, especially if I am stressed or running late (Which I strive to avoid most of the time) I may not be able to find things that are in plain site. I could walk by a particular item four times and not see it. I will look for the item in different locations but not be able to see it sitting on the table. Ugh..! When it is bad at times, it is like my thoughts or emotions will cloud my brain's interpretation of the visiual stimuli my eyes are seeing.
7. I am not an organized person by any means.
8. I do at times have problems expressing myself or draw a blank for a word I am searching for especially when anxious or nervous.
9. When I was a child. I played baseball and basketball but was terribly uncoordinated.

I have read about how the symptoms are worse when one is: tired, hungry, hot /cold, or generally anxious or stressed.

Now for the million dollar question: Can MJ help with the symptoms of dyslexia?
