Valueline 6 inch blower Noise

ok, so i hear these 445cfm valueline and htg blower fans are loud. I plan on buying a 6inch fan too cool my cooltube and scrubb my room of odors. If i buy a fan speed controler and run this fan at the lowest setting how loud would it be? I ask because op is in closet in room and dont wont it to be heard where someone would open up my closet. Im guessing since the closet is shut all the time there should be no problem?

thanks

i need to know this info too. would it help to have the 4 inch insulated flexible ducting? if not what is the best way to keep fan noise down?

good drown

well if you get a speed controller, get a variac, as the cheap triacs that shops sell will create a loud humming noise when you slow the speed down. that is because those cheap speed controllers keep the fan in "startup mode" forever. bad for the life of the fan also, and its louder than the fan itself on full blast!

ebay, they are like $50 for a cheap one, then they go up to $500. to power a fan, a cheap one is fine. if you get a 6, and knock it down to 50%(200+cfm) it will be very quiet.
what size light you running? i use a 6" for a single 400w MH, then a 6" for my 2 600's. the one for the 400w is cranked down to 30%
both reflectors stay cool to the touch

i have a 6'' htg fan, with their fan controller.. and when i run my fan below 50% power, it makes a weird high pitched noise, which is very noticable. this is the same with my htg 4'' fan

they do push a lot of air though! :)

well ive heard the vortexes are loud and have heard alot of good reviews on the valueline doing just as good as vortex. i just am on a budget and i want to get it but dident think about at night when im sleeping or when im not home if someone walks by my room and hears it. im in a good sized room and the door is always closed, and the closet door is closed at all times. Nobody comes in my room anyways but i dont want to give them a reason to....so a valueline and a variac is the answer?

I have a 6" vortex and am running into similar problems. The Vortex sucks so much air that it was cooling my room off too much so I had to put it on a timer for only 15 minutes every 2 hours when the light is on and 15 minutes every 4 hours when the light is off. I want to get a steady flow of fresh air, but not too much so I am going to buy a variac asap. Not to mention how loud this thing is!

The problem with aircooled is $$ to run the fans it will always be noisy till you upgrade to 8"/12" as it runs slower and moves more air this with a controler workes well but a 6" runing at half power is like no different than a normal hood realy.. and noisy real noisy a acoustic fan and a silencer is still noisy (IMHO) even with acoustic ducting all the links make a fan less productive.
