I never really thought about it, but off-hand, I don't think so. Usually if it is a pulse start it will say so specifically. If I'm wrong, please, someone correct me.

Check out ebay for cheap 35W, 70W and 150W ceramic metal halides, there are tons of them, ballasts, bulbs, complete fixtures, secondhand units from shops, I paid 99p each for a pair of 70w complete fixtures, one used with bulb, one brand new without bulb, got an 830 3000k bulb for 50p from another seller.

The 150s are very useful, you can scrap the double ended fixture and bulb and get a e40 bulb and standard growlamp reflector, or keep the double ended socket and mount it to a better reflector. Best of all with the double ended 150s is that you can buy 10k, 14k and 20k aquarium bulbs cheap as well as the usual 3k, 4.2k and 6.5k lamps.

OK I got an email back from one seller telling me that his M102 was not pulse start, so it does need to be specified. You were right messn. =)

thanks to you Sparky 6...my anser is YES!!! i was on here yesterday to ask my fellow CMH users if they knew what was up with Thomas and http://advancedtechlighting.com/index.htm because i had called from monday-yesterday(8th-11th) with muti calls with no anser other than the "leave me your name and number, and i'll call back" well needless to say i got none/nada return calls from Thomas :dunno: so i gave http://www.lightingsupply.com/ a call and WOW im so glad i did..i placed my order for 2-->CDM400S51/HOR/4K/ALTO around 4:00PM yesterday and they were on my steps at 10:00AM today!!!! :dance013:granted im in ohio and there in michigan,so im in "ZONE" 1 for next day delivery but still DAMN thats fast,i used a pre paid wally world visa with no problem, saved $20.00+ bucks, and was only charged $9.95 for shipping for both bulbs!!!...now please don't think im trying to bash Thomas or http://advancedtechlighting.com/index.htm but when you hear fellow CMH users asking "whats up" with the slow shipping/and service..and then you see on the web site from the company saying they fixed the slow shipping, but yet you can't get a return phone call for days on end/nore any e-mail responces (yes i e-mailed muti times as well) kinna makes me wanna spend my hard earned coin someware else...i hope Thomas can fix the problems he's been having, cause he is a cool guy

WOW, i got a call from Thomas from http://advancedtechlighting.com/index.htm about 2 hours after my first post on here today. he asked me if i had called i told him i did muti time for the past 4 days.he stated to me he was sorry and that he had been very busy this past week, and since i had tryed to get a hold of him all this week that he was willing to make it up to me by sending me a new CDM400S51/HOR/4K/ALTO bulb "FREE OF CHARGE":biggrin::biggrin: he took my e-mail/shipping info, then sent me a e-mail with a tracking number!!!! + called me back to make sure i got the e-mail info...i tell you what fellow CMH fans..Thomas may had dropped the ball with me at first..BUT more than made right with me on his mistake!!! im saying most company would'nt even care if they did you wrong, let alown be willing to fix the problem.well Thomas went above most owners would to make a past customer happy!!! with that being said http://advancedtechlighting.com/index.htm will still be my #1 source for CMH gear :dance013:

thanks to you Sparky 6...my anser is YES!!!

You know some cultures believe that the best way of expressing thanks is to send the person you're thanking any free HID bulbs you may have received recently. I always thought that was kinda weird until now.

Glad it worked out for you from both companies. Especially glad that Lighting Supply Co didn't rip you off because then I would have been assigned the blame! Then you wouldn't send me your free bulb like you probably will now.

I agree Thomas is a GREAT person and i can't emphasize that enough, here is the thread i wrote earlier pertaining to his help when it came to my order. He definetly is willing to help for any problems, and does not look at complication that they may have as a customer problem which most other companies do follow.

First off I'm sorry if this is the wrong spot for this or if it shouldn't be posted.

Well i just got off the phone with an extremely informative Thomas of Advanced Tech Lighting. I had called because i had received my package(in short time) but was actually missing the a ballast i had ordered.

Thomas was extremely helpful and not only that did not try to sell me unwanted stuff, instead he informed me of whats going on with my order and the benefits of using CMH instead of space heaters(HPS lamps and conversions).

He even mentioned some things to me that i would've never known about the 250 and 400 CMH such as they can be run on a PSMH ballast or a HPS ballast. This is only for the higher watts though. He seemed to cater to growers which is what made me happy because he knows more than enough about how well these bulbs are for horticulture.

Another thing that amazed me was they have a schematic for a soft start timer delay! He did not try to sell it to me or even mention selling one. However he did tell the link in order to build one for about $100!

For those of you who don't know, when a CMH ballast turns off, say from a blackout it needs at least 10 mins to cool because it will not hot re-strike. The bulb will not light if power goes and out and turns back on a minute later, instead the bulb will just continue arcing. With the soft start delay, it waits 1 minutes and than starts again. Not only that but its a soft start which is much better for lamp life.

Thomas mentioned that he would send the ballast out today, not the next morning or night. The reason i'm writing this is because the people there are really trying to help the growers at home out without selling them unwanted things. I couldn't ask for more in a company. Thomas really knew what hes talking about and enjoys informing people, great service(they pre-burn the bulb also!) and not to mention very friendly and helpful! It was funny me and him would go back and forth and you could just tell he was excited about these. I'm very happy to give them my business and hope others do too.

Also the design for the soft start timer delay is hott, as it extends bulb life. These people know what their doing and are trying to help the people out there, not by selling crap. They only sell a couple different products for a reason, quality.

They have very good prices and the quality of what they do is well worth the cost. If i ever need anything again i would gladly buy from them! He reminded me of Simba from this forum because he was very knowledgeable and just wants to help the end user(you) with bigger yields and healthier plants.

Once again I'm sorry if this is in the wrong spot or if it seems like an advertisement. I just think that people deserve what they paid for and quality and knowledge is definitely worth it. Give them a call if you would like to learn more about CMH without reading 200pages of the CMH thread, I'm halfway done and don't think i need to go back. I'm sure Thomas would not mind informing you on the CMH.

Stay green everybody!!

Like I said... I've never had a problem with Advancedtechlighting.com. I've placed two orders and am more than satisfied with the service I received. I've ordered a total of 7 400w's and each one has fired up with no problem. Just the fact that Advancedtech pre-burns combined with the service I have received... it will always be my number one choice.
