Cheap Hanna Meter :(

Dropped my meter in my nutes last night. I swear this thing is designed to flood as fast as it can. Really a nice hole in the battery compartment? Then 4 holes in that leading right to the PCB? For something that goes near water?! UGH! I caught it in about half a second time and instantly disconnected the probe, took out the batteries, and started blowing all the water out. After that let it sit in front of a fan for 8 hours but now the pH jumps around by .30 and i can't calibrate the 4/10 end...might end up opening it up and giving it a good alcohol rinse and see. I've had cellphones survive being dropped in nasty puddles, being rinsed with water, and going through this same method and work 100% afterwords. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY HANNA WHYYYY.

Anyways enough ranting, i need a new pH meter it seems, preferably waterproof so when I'm doing maintenance all tired at 1am i don't do this crap again. Anyone? Biggest bang for my cheap buck? Cheap permanently attached ph meter?

Sorry for your misfourtune brother.

I don't claim to be an expert here...But I would consider using RO or distilled water for the rinse.

Alcohol is a solvent and could affect things.

Pure water is pretty much non-conductive (no ec) and will dissolve nutrient residue.

FWIW - I'm rolling with a hanna waterproof meter and it's holding up well to life in the grow room.

that's crap.

next time that happens use silica gel (the packets that say "do not eat" or "dessicant" that come in so many products)

Just rinse it out with distilled water (good tip) and dry it off well with a fan, then put it in an air tight container (growers have jars lying around, don't they?) with as many of the little packets as you can round up. I save them just for this purpose. It will suck all the water out of the electronics in about 3 - 4 days

good luck

Sweet! This morning i was able to calibrate it!

It required 2 quick soaks of distilled water and subsequent blowing out the water though various openings and then being placed in to a sandwich ziplock with some sort of desiccant. Looks like the silica pads but the packaging says it can be reactivated in the oven @ 250 for 16 hours. I didn't have 16 hours so i just placed the meter sandwiched in with the bags, removed the air and sealed, and then placed on top of my ballast for 8 hours. Worked like a charm!

Thanks!

Paranoid,

Be careful and check the function of that meter with a second calibration solution. I did the same thing with my hanna primo and they really have absolutely no water resistance...what a joke. My meter came back for a while but then the calibrations were way off in a day and then the on/off switch started to die...I ended up burning my girls...so heads up.
