how many 2'-3' plants under a 600w?

How many 24"-36" plants should be under a 600w for optimal light coverage in flower? I think I'm packing em in too tightly and have nice top bud but side budding is lacking a bit in my opinion. I have 9 bushed 36' plants under a 600 on a 3x3 tray and I'm not getting enough light coverage on the lower buds. Will that improve if I only put say 6 plants in the tray?

well of course that would give them more light, if youre removing something that is essentially blocking light from something else, yeah it would be beneficial. but in your case i would look into either properly trimming them, or tie them down so you can manipulate the canopy to give the sides more light, i wouldnt get rid of any of them. thats sacrilegious! :comfort:

Though I'm allowed 6 flowering plants under Oregon's MMJ law (OMMP) I only grow 5 plants because I'm too stupid to figure out how you can get 6 plants evenly placed under my 600 watt light.

Looking at a pair of dice, I know how to configure 5 plants, 4 plants, 3 plants, 2 plants and even 1 plant. The 6 plant deal escapes me. Old age, eh?

I average 4 oz. per plant depending on the specific strain(s) that I grow. 20 oz. per cycle is far more than I can ever smoke and give away 60% of my crop to hospices, other new MMJ growers to get them some medicine while they're growing out their first crops, etc.

Works for me.

You sound like a nice guy.

Depending on the grow area, and how much reflectivity you can arrange 6 plants in two rows of 3 (a hard 6) should work just fine. Maybe move the center two in a little to make a sort of hourglass shape

Of course you could always spring for a 1k light.

5 bushes. clackamas do you have any journals or any input in general? I "know" someone who "knows" someone who runs a 600 4x4. el monstraxko kush at day 28 with various training techniques they dont look like there going to put out 4 zips each atleast not all of them. they run the technaFLORA recipe for success. 2 are trained ones more of a bonzai the other a shrub. one was topped and its a bush with 4 to 5 main sites and the other 3 are untrained and are tall almost 4 feet id say in the pots. the trained plants vegged for about a month longer than the other 3. so i guess what im saying is whats ur secret :p spill the beans...

Here's a strain that I have named 'Samadhi'

And there's another strain that I named 'Blue Orca'

which is the plant on the right side of the screen.

heh it was the most even distribution i could come up with, though someone with some calculus could probably solve this much more precisely given the light's effective radius and diminishing brightness levels and the shape of the area, but we'd need some equipment to get good readings >_>

FWIW, I setup the plants with a light meter. They usually windup in a stadium-like arrangement.

If I am growing bush style I always give the plants 2sqft to work with. I always trim the bottom 5-8 inches of growth b/c you'll never get proper penetration from the light and it also helps with air flow.

Another thing I found from experience is even though the main cola is looking great the side branches even with proper lighting sometimes don't grow anywhere near to the quality of the main. Typically I just shrug it off and throw it into the trim pile if its not jar worthy.
