electricity companies on the west coast are RAPING there customers.

It's not any better on the east coast, prices are through the roof here too.

But don't worry, soon they'll even be higher, and people on this site are even campaigning for higher electricity prices (the stupid global warming thread in the lounge.)

Then provide your own power if you think it's so easy to generate and distribute power.

Just like cable tv, phone, automobiles, the internet you're typing on.

its as easy as dropping 10 grand on a solar setup and shit if the power companies didn't have it their way we could all cover are roofs with solar panels and turn the meter in reverse and be are own power plant and then the power companies would be paying us

but they have lobbyist to help them get there way

growing the righteous way is the only way to succeed. stealing is not righteous. he deserves it for being a thief.

Heres a story I picked off the internet from an electrician that doesn't involve a grow, is he just as bad as the guy growing pot?

"Before I was old enough to know better I hooked up a friend's house on a "split feed". There was a master cutoff switch installed in the twenties before the meter. I put a tap on the switch from behind, through the wall and out of sight. It ran the stove, A/C, dryer, and water heater, everything else was metered. The previous owner had never used much electricity and had it cut off several times for getting behind on the bill. So when my buddy moved in the power company suspected nothing. Four home owners later the power company figured it out.
I am proud of this evil! I drilled trough the wall and attached coupler nuts to the screws that held the wires in place, then put screws on the couplers. Instant tap! I covered the whole installation with enough silicone rubber to be safe and hide my tracks. Then I put a subpanel over the whole mess."

The truth is Electricans and Lineman bypass power for growers/non growers all day long, why not put them jail they are the ones doing it.

I don't condone stealing but I don't think people should go to jail for stealing electricity there is nothing morally wrong with it, but there is a lot morally wrong with generating power and doesn't have positive environmental impacts. Would I put the power companies in jail yup, there holding the world back from living in Earth Sheltered homes with minimal solar/wind power.

That would all depend on your morals, and people obviously have different morals.

Some people don't have a problem with stealing weed either.

:smokey:

What if the option was steal electricity or not steal electricity and get your weed stolen by the cops. I don't and won't steal electricity because I can just pay my bill, some are not as fortunate.

Yeah,. I'm told that many Asian gangs rent houses and warehouses, steal the power and pack the place to the rafters with plants and lights. Heard of one house that had 80 lights in it!

Yep fuck those guys, giving us all a bad name.

yup, fuck them. im all for prosecuting elec thieves. shit if i have to pay 1200 a month they can too. theres still plenty of room for profit.

I have no sympathy for electricity or any theft. He deserves to get charged solely for that.

Huh? This grower deserved MORE time.

And why hasn't anyone in this thread mentioned that burning down a house and placing all your neighbors houses in jepordy is bad news.

You guys condem his stealing but no one mentions the fire he caused. He should be given 10 years just for the fire. What if you were his neighbor and he burned your house down because the fireman couldn't show up in time?

This guy got off light.

I almost agreed with you, but that could happen with anyone, maybe a magnetic ballast crapped out due to some leak (although it probably was his lame electrical rigging). Once again Ass uming...Dude, do you ever have any positivity to contribute..

Yet you type this on the internet which is powered by electricity.

Yeah and its payed for and cheap, doesn't it bother you that Canada generates electricity for the US and sells it at super high prices? Sure we got lots of electricity but it has come at the price of our River Systems and our fish, not to mention the animals that feed on them.

Lets not forget to mention that Hydroelectric dams don't require very many employees so basically we have these massive structures who generate tons of money but don't employ the community, so people have to grow marijuana/work for growers for employment so they can one day buy a house that costs an average of half a million dollars. Growing contributes way more to our communities then any hydroelectric dam there just feeding off of us and snitching, way I see it they can go fuck themselves.

Everyone assumes people are "stealing" power so they dont have to pay the bill, but in reality, while I cant speak for everyone, im sure most of these people are stealing electricity in efforts to stay OFF the radar...unfortunately, he chose the wrong way to do things..

you act like stealing electricity is the worst thing in the world. while I would never do it, electricity companies on the west coast are RAPING there customers, growers or not, electricity is through the fucking roof.. Power companies are making insane amounts of money right now..

but none the less, stealing is stealing, and will always be frowned upon, as it should be..

FUCK THIEVES.

This guy wasn't stealing electricity to "stay off the radar." I dont think he had a large enouph grow to bring that kind of attention to himself, for one. He was doing it to cut costs.

Is there a difference when a grower is stealing power to "stay off the radar" verses cutting costs??? What if the grower, who is stealing power to stay off the radar, is contributing back to society in other ways? Like feeding the hungry, for example... working at the local shelter and what nots.

A high sentence for electric theft to off-set a free ride on the plants? Interesting, and scary, tradeoff.

Sure, we can debate the morality of stealing power. What happens, though, when the feds start handing out long sentences for tax evasion, Al Capone style?

While I agree that stealing electricity is not very wise, I dont think that people should stand up and think they are any less guilty or better, since they are violating the federal law of the USA by growing weed. Has that changed yet. Sort of hypocritical to think that way IMO.

As long as it's legal for me to grow my med's in my state I don't consider myself hypocritical. I have no worries about the Feds knocking on my door.

Something`s up with that sentencing. If he was paying his bill and got caught stealing a $18,000 car would he have still recieved 5 years? I don`t think so. Not enough info in the article. I`d bet priors or that`s a fed conviction. There`s been plenty of people who did the same thing and got restitution and one year or less in cali...

Stealing electricity is a federal offense. I think stealing any utility is a federal offense (google: utilities fraud.) I doubt the $18000 represents only the amount the electricity was worth. I'm sure they set-up some sort of plea deal where he does the five and the fine, and they let the grow charge slide.
