Funky smell in runoff

So I started in 3 gallon pots but ended up vegging for long than I had figured (8 weeks). I moved them to flower about 3 weeks ago and suddenly they are not looking so good, leaves are mottling and turning brown. One thing I did notice tonight is that the runoff has a very funky spell, almost fishy. Any ideas?

Thank you ,
Sawyer

This is the smell of death...anaerobic! Either your media is too wet for too long or your media has something in it that should not be.

try to give it a flush, 3 times the amount of water than soil, or whatever your medium is. i think thats the protocal....

just look it up and flush that baby.

wet sock smell?
well and trully been over watering for a while.

just stinky?
what medium are you using if soil it could just be, broken down sea weed extract, alot good brand soil has add soil wetter, blended manure, seaweed extract or fish amulsion it could be any of these reacting with some the nute or additives you use.

i need a picture or a better description of the plant before i can be certain enough to tell you what todo, id take a look at the roots report back any colour or slime. 1day flush a quick rinse with peroxide or h2o2 ONLY if in hydro clay/perlite or recycling setup.

if your in soil or coco after the flush keep the ec around 1.0/ ph 5.8 for a week use some enzymes or friendly bacteria and root tonic specially if you saw root damage..

i could also just be to cold for them so food isnt being eaten comes out in the over flow, some light sets it off and you have an algee bloom and a smell, lower ec and feed volume

no mold or fungus growing on the top of your soil? How dry are you letting your soil get b4 you water again? Usually bad smells are caused by fungi or bacteria, which love wet environments, but like the others have said its tough to say without a pic or more info. 8 weeks of veg, how big are these babies and in what size of container? You could have root rot, which is again an over watering syndrome usually.

The question remains has the soil been wet, have they dried out between waterings? Cuz you may need a re-pot with some lighter media...if its real bad.

Funky smell means you're 'making beer' down there. Too much water and nutrients, too little oxygen. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) will work in soilmix to remove the stink and reoxygenate it. Seems like you can use quite a bit of it too. I've experimented with so much H2O2 that the soilmix bubbles from the stinky bacteria and wont drain. Next day the plant was looking much better.
