Failed World Economies = Increase or Decrease and cannabis seed business?

As I look around my local area I see more and more business's being boarded up by the week, the failed US economy is finally coming to a head in 2010. The odd thing is, I see hydro stores popping up all over the place. So obviously the underground marijuana trade is growing, people bargain shop for food but dont blink an eye at dropping hundreds in the hydro shop. Im just curious, since we have seed sellers, breeders and banks represented here, if people in the industry could chime in on this one. Obviously people are flocking to this plant in our troubled times, Im just trying to gauge what this new crop of growers are growing. If they're finding European seed vendors, taking the risk and ordering good genetics or if they're busting out the shwag seed collection and growing some crap they had laying around the house.

I wonder if we'll see an influx of shitty weed hitting the market this summer undercutting everyone with a good quality product.

Also, another interesting fact about this poor economy, the alcohol business is also booming. I wonder how much government unemployment money is being spent on setting up grow ops, buying herb and booze too keep stupified enough so they dont think about how bad things are.

Drug and alcohol abuse tend to rise when economies go down. MJ will be one of the only growing industries as the states continue to move towards legalization.

As bad is it gets I would think the seed industry continues to grow as more people become aware of the industry.

People tend to grow their own more when they don't have a choice. If you're unemployed and the choices are grow your own or not smoke, I think you'll see some smokers start growing. The major push towards cannabis legalization is one of the few good things to come out of this recession. After all, the Depression was a big part of why prohibition ended.

Well gypsy could sort this answer out in a minute. But if the sales have been up i'm thinking it's because in all honesty laws have been getting a lot better over the last couple of years. I honestly think we are at the tipping point right now. We'll see..

There are still a lot of smokers out there that maybe would like to grow but are to afraid to do so. There are always new people discovering cannabis so you got your new customers coming from there. Generally speaking i think the market right now has a long way to go to reach it's full potential.

Then after legalization (if it happens) we will probably see the homegrowing scene die out a little because it will be cheaper to buy quality buds than to actually grow them yourself. Simple economics..
