Anyone out there running a hydrogen, icebox, or chill king?
I'm considering getting a 2hp chiller, hydro-Gen pro, a few ice boxes, as well as their new co2 controller. Anyone using their gear have any issues, tips or tricks? I know that watercooling is the most efficient means, and I want to do it. I just want to know if users can attest to the quality & efficiency of their products. Converting costs a chunk, but I see it paying for itself the 1st run. I would love to hear your thoughts if you are currently running their gear. Thanks!

There have been a lot of posts about the HydroGEN.

I have 2 units and am no longer using any of them. The main problem with the HydroGEN is that the units will not automatically refire if the flame does not stay lit. And for some reason, the unit doesn't like to fire successfully. So you'll end up having running water and no CO2 being generated.

If they can resolve this problem, then it'll be a great unit. Until then, I have gone back to my Sentinel CO2 gens.

noone88 thanks for the reply. interesting.. Were you running Propane or natural gas? I know that natural gas needs minimum gas pressure of like .42, or they just don't work. where I live the pressure is like .20 so I will go propane. I think the new pro tries to refire 3 times before It just shuts off the power to the unit. I don't really see any issues w water running through the unit when its off. It would do that most the time in my CEA grows as the thing will only kick on for 2 minutes every half hour, the pump and chiller would run anyway for the iceboxes to cool my hoods and AC the room. I would be really pissed if my burner didn't work. I been buggin the shit out of the owner, and he's been really patient with me. I been learning a lot about water cooling from this guy. I love innovative tech gear when it works.

I still want to hear more about the Chillkings and iceboxes too. if anyone else has more to contribute, I would love to know more about the whole water cooled setup, and whether you think its worth water cooling or not. I plan to get started on pre build next weekend, so I am doing as much research as I can before I make my final decision.

I had one that caught on fire I made a thread about. The guy at the shop said that they never reimbursed him for the unit and they no longer sale them. I did like the unit until of course the fire.

barnyard where did it look like the fire started, at the pilot or below? any soot from the bottom up? or is it coming out holes on the sides and front/back? was it wall mounted or by chain?

ok i was going to post what my hydro shop owner said about them as a horror story but now that someone posted they catch on fire that takes the cake! i was going to get one but now i know i wont.

the owner of the local store said he ordered one in for a guy and it leaked water. he ordered a replacement in and the replacement leaked water as well.

I believe that would be condensation. it happens when you run really cold water over heat or fire. I actually would expect it to happen. I opened one up and saw that the pro has everything sealed up pretty good. Maybe I'll just run a tank like I was going to, unless I can get a good enough deal to take a gamble. I have a reg and bottle should it fail. I know a few have caught fire because people over tighten the gas line, breaking the line and spews gas. others didn't use the rubber washer/gaskets that come with the unit.

I dont think hydroinovations makes there chillers . I know they dont make the hydrogen.I have not bought an icebox but i built one and it worked great.I used it to cool the exhaust on my Marey on demand portable hot water heater. For my new room I bought an Ecotemp 5 portable on demand hot water heater ,it was 125$ shipped and it does exactly what the 300$ renamed hydrogen does.

Ice box concept is a good one I salvaged a 4x2 ft a/c condenser and built one to cool a whole room 9x9x7 ,2400 watt open bulb(it could handle more if i increased water flow and turned fans on higher setting).
Works like a giant icebox.I use solenoid valves to control the co2 burner and 4x2ft icebox.
All my water cooled projects have been DTW.Water here is abundant cheap and 45-50 degrees year round ,single family dwellings are not on meters you just pay a flat rate sewwer and water bill.

I love water cooling and I dont own any hydroinovation products cept for the over priced water solenoid valve I bought from them for 75$ (there on ebay for 35$)

I came up with an idea to super cool the exhaust on the hydrogen last year (works great btw now I really can hold my hand over exhaust port without 3 degree burns ) I posted I was gonna contact Hydroinovations, some honyock showwed up in my thread talkin bout they already had plans to make a mini ice box to cool exhaust and dont bother contacting Hydroinovations. There was talk of free mini iceboxxes for first 100 people. They never made the mini ice box probably because that would be admitting there exhaust was hot on there hydrogen (and it is without the mini ice box)

If you water cool be prepared for condensation on any line that is not insulated from room heat.Fin area of iceboxxes will also drip ,dont put anything electrical under an icebox or hydrogen .There is no way to insulate the heat exchangers on these types of things so condensation is going to happen. My 4x2 ft heat exchanger condensates 3 gallons a day ,lessening the load on my dehumidifier .I love water

I could not tell you where I think it started from the hole unit was fried and yes it was wall mounted the only reason why my place didn't burn down because my neg pressure must have smouthered the fire. I no this because I had black and white with a zipper and it was pulling in good thing though.

Do you have a photo barnyard? did you use the rubber gaskets and do the soapy water leak check? no teflon tape either, right? you didn't over tighten the gas line either did you? their copper and prone to breakage if you over tighten.

Either i missed them when I posted or they werent there yet .Either way I stand corrected .I just watched there chill king vid I like those ceiling moung water cooled ac units they had as well as the compressorless unit for cool climates

I spoke w Stephen of hydro innovations and he said he has worked out the kinks that less that 1% sold had. I can't remember what he's changing exactly, but he is emailing me a revised quote for products I will need to properly water cool my lighting, AC, and I am going to try his cheap co2 controller with a new hydroGEN pro II with an explanation of what the the new hydroGEN burner features are.
