problems with leaf curling under

Hey guys,

So I have an organic grow going on with some easy ryder autoflowers, and it's posted in the autoflower thread.

I'm having some issues with my leaves curling under.. Leaves look nice and green and healthy, no burn tips or anything, but just the leaves curling under pretty harshly..

My recipe is listed in my grow, but it's basically

60% a 50/50 mix of FFOF and FFhappyfrog
20% EWC
20% Perlite

I added about 2-3 Tbs per gallon of pellitized Dolo lime, blended to a powder (i know, dumb, but I didn't have my powdered in time).

I did the seedlings in smaller pots until day 14, and they have been in the 5 gallon pots of that mix for 13 days now.

I feed with an aerated tea of
1 cup EWC
4 tbs organic unsulphered blacktrap molasses.

They have had one tea watering with Liquid Karma, and one yesterday with neptunes harvest 2-4-1 as instructed in LC's mix #5.

part of me is paranoid about the lime not working because of the amount and kind I had to use (I have plenty of dolo lime now).

Last harvest I barely stumbled into a harvest, and I may be over reacting, but...you know how it goes...

Any advice would be stellar!

Cut WAY back on the molasses - I use 1 tsp. per gallon in my AACT and never as part of a hydration program. Carbohydrates only increase bacteria microbe growth at the expense of fungai (needed for phosphorus uptake - see "Teaming With Microbes" for further information).

Ok, looks like two votes for too much molasses. And from good sources. I'll dial down the carbs..

I'll make my next watering with only EWC, and then the following with only EWC and some more 2-3-1 fish.

It must be the fox farm soil?, as all the tea recipes here call for 1tbs/gallon, but those are using the promix.

I'll wait a week or more, then start again with 1 tsp per gallon if all looks well.

Thanks DH, & CC!

Too much N will cause leaf ´clawing `also. But it could be also the Molasses or a combination of both. Too much bacteria......makes more nutrients available to the plants.

Keep us posted Z.

I have used the FFOF before and found that is best used after it has been cycled for a grow or two. Or compost if further with AACT.

Thanks all, this helped me out immensely too. I have been battling Dr. Claw for a little while. Now I know why and what I need to do to fix it.

Yeah, I'm growing less fond of it by the moment.. I'm just using up whats left of what I had here, and picked up a couple of bales of the pro mix with myco..

I'll be using that exactly with the recipes on here, and once I have something consistent locked in, I'll start adding or tweaking things.I did have some leaf curling in my last grow, and things went pretty negative after that.. I'll chill out on giving them anything for a bit, and see if they relax.

the other thing that is associated with clawing is high heat. i have noticed it on parts of plants that are close to light and absent on tops which are further away. in this case though i would agree that its more likely to be high N and way too much molasses at the wrong time.

Yeah, someone PM'ed me the same information. I can assure that it is not high heat, as my daytime highs right now are in the high 70's, and my nighttime lows are in the low to mid 60's.. I did have a few days where my humidity was whacked, but that is dialed in now. My light distance to plants is more than needed, and could actually be lowered with no ill affects.

I'm trying to work on getting both up a little bit, so I'm at 80 in the day, and 65 at night, but I have to do some tweaking with a dehumidifier to get it just right.

Thanks V. I have seriously dialed back both for now..It's been a few days, and the 'clawing' is much less pronounced. There is some VERY light fading/yellowing at some of the tips, but nothing that is worrying me yet. I'll just relax and chill for about another week and see where they are at.

Is there something I should add to my teas to make them more even as far as bacteria to fungi? or just stay where I'm at?

They were fed last night with a EWC only tea, and next watering will be only EWC and maybe Liquid Karma.

Good call. I think I might be giving a bit too much molasses myself. Only one fan leaf, on one of my 5 plants, has a curling under problem that just appeared. I'll dial back the molasses my next watering.

overwatering and the claw look very different, ive expierenced both and after reading this i realize it probably was too much molasses.
