Clones yellowing....what do i do

W

Wasabi420

i recently took some ak47 clones. they were pretty healthy when i took them. I used rooting powder and put them in rapid rooters and then into an aquarium with a bubbler. That was about a couple of weeks ago and now some are turning yellow. some have roots but im concerned there is a problem. I tried using a very dilute nutrient solution and today i just lowered the ph. hopefully they will recover soon. Any sugestions???

Wasabi,
Cold really slows down the rooting process. If you can get them to root faster...then they won't use up all their reserve. Heat pad might help for future cuttings.

Don't know what media they're in, but yes, the should be fed. Start weak and build up. I also have used Penetrator, a N foliar feed on cuttings when they've taken too long. I think I used three x daily folir and the greened up enough to finish rooting.

PS Also there's some thinking out there that it's best to avoid N feeding on the Mom for a week before taking cuttings. Through a multi-step process...it ends up leaving more stored sugar in the cutting. That means more energy available to form roots.

i wouldnt worry too much, i had clones yellowed completely but if you can keep em alife 14 days most will root and take up extra nutrients to build healthy new leafs..

All good advice above, one more thing to add; make sure the light is not too close. If the cuts are yellowing because they're growing, that means the light is too close.

thanks for the tips. i dont think its the temp its been around 74 the whole time. and im sure the light isnt too close( im using flouros). a couple have rooted but most are lagging. hopefully the rest will take. i feel like they might be slow because the mother had started budding when i took the clones

Keeping the rooting medium in firm contact with the length of the stem will help the clones keep from yellowing.

Most of the time when the leaves on my clones yellow, as long as theyre not deficient in anything else but nitrogen, they'll gree back up when potted up in a few days or so.

I wouldn't worry too much

Here's the thing. Clones can't really get yellow unless they try to grow and have to relocate N to get it done. If left in the right amount of light, they don't get yellow because they don't try to grow topgrowth. Most, if not all, people use too much light on clones and could benifit by moving further away. Also, the lower light level seems to stimulate rootgrowth, which makes evolutionary sense because it is exactly what a plant needs first if it plans to grow higher than it's neighbor (which may be shading it).

I have had the same issues getting cuttings right a bit of trial and error youll get there sounds like the light is to close. Ive tried all sorts of propigators but get a 36 site areoponic propigator is fantastic get a small tak heater at 26c a old shop 4 tube strip light 12 inch away. 18ltr mineral water Rhitotonic 4ml per ltr and sprinkle for 15mins twice a day at the moment i am getting rooted cuts in around 5 days almost 100% sucess cuts dipped in clonex in jiffy pucks.
