H3ad goes Coco

If the coco never dries out, I cannot see where penetration could be an issue, water moves through wet coco readily. If you are drying them out... why? and watering slowly will increase absorption a lot.

Nah, I never let it dry out... water daily, never miss a beat.. try to follow your advise to the pin to match results

think my strains could just be too nute sensitive? I'm running some satori which are definitely a nute shy strain, but the jack herrer and diesels seem to all get burnt too..

always get at least 15% runoff, and all my leave tips are burnt, some of the jacks are spotted with burn and fried.

Hey H3ad quick question for you. I got 6 gallon pots and want to grow some mothers in them using botanicare coco. I'm using your 6/9 with epsom salt mix with RO water. Will the mix be a lil off cause of the RO water?

Also it's hard for me to always heat up epsom salt for your mix. I have a bottle of sugar daddy. Can I use that and how much?

Thank you for your time.

NCS420- yeah i read that too about dropping the epsom salts. but h3ad also said that he at one point used tap water (i believe) and now more recently uses well water. both of those sources have more calcium and magnesium than our RO water. so i'd say it's possible that his water sources work better with the 6/9 ratio than it would with ours. my personal thought (and experiment) is that if you're using RO, add some cal-mag (5ml/G) to the solution to help 'simulate' tap or decent well water to help bring it back to the cherry spot. i'm by no means a chemist but it seems to make sense that you could play around a little with it. i promise you won't blow up a small country.

if you're hand watering it's probably best to do a side-by-side and see what works for you. i'm using autopots (bottom feed) so i don't really have that luxury. but recently i dropped the cal-mag all-together to see what happens and things seem to be going well so far, but i have a feeling that i will struggle with salt buildup issues more often since the medium isn't being flushed. hope this helps to some extent. if i'm off, i'm sure someone will help to educate us as that's what we are all hear for right?

From our spot.... We Love her! The October HT has some great pics of CJ from our garden...... Better pics than I can take, at least.....

She is one hella yielder, almost 2#per light first run, getting her dialed in now, looks more like 2.5 is possible.:woohoo:

I'm doing a CJ in Coco as well - 6/9 (+ CalMag & Hygrozyme this last week). I just had to say though: Racer 5 is my favorite IPA of all time. This is the beer that made me an IPA guy. And yes, it's in the rotation as well! Cheers!

This thread is so long it's hard to read every page.lol So no more epsom salt, ok. I have some magi-cal. I think it has the same % of cal and mag as cal-mag from botanicare. Does anyone know the ppm of heads water?? I can just add my tap to my ro water to even it out also don't you think?

My tap ppm's are so high so I got a ro system. I think it's at 330/340 ppm @.5 converstion last time I checked. Well any help would be great.

H3ad, or anyone else, can you take a look at this pic & tell me what you think. Specificall I've got a few bright pale yellow tips on this Chem 4 (day 6 flower). I've also got a Casey Jones & a Master Kush. Neither of those have this issue. Full photo set

Chem 4 - slight yellow tips
here.
I've running 6/9 w/ 5-10 ml CalMag (depending) & 10ml Hygrozyme (1-2 times/wk). These are wick-fed so I only feed 2-3 times/wk & the coco stays moist as long as the res is half-filled. Using Roots Organic coco mix.

Older Chem4 leaf (we decided this was Mg deficiency) treated w/ CalMag. Splotchiness has faded for the most part, doesn't show at all on new growth. The Ch4 had the same nute mix as the other two, but is more sensitive for some reason.

H3ad...any advise on dealing with fungus gnats? I am starting to really hate those little bastards.

Any advise on drying once you have not overferted using this formula? I am a pull the fan leaves off and hang the plant in an environment that will take it 7 days or so to dry kinda guy at the moment...but always looking for something better.

H3ad...I was thinking about modifying your mix for coco since you don't use RO water. Tell me what you think.

There is 2 ways I think it could work.

1) Use the 6/9 and add 5ml of cal-mag or magical
2) Up the micro to 8/9 and add 5ml of sweet or sugar daddy

If anyone here is using RO and using H3ads 6/9 formula let me know how it's working for you.

And thanks dodo for the info.

Hey dude I would look into getting Cutting Edge Solutions line and use the 5/10 mix with 5ml Plant Amp 2.5ml Mag Amped 5ml Uncle John's Blend.... up UJB to 10ml when flowers show...

attachment.php

that's how I'm looking now, things were good with the 5/10 but they got all shiny and bright when I added the additives..

p.s. using this mix has given me the best looking plants I've seen in veg! I can't wait till flowers start forming over the next few weeks...

Hey Thund plants look great. I was gonna get CES nutes, but I just had so much left over of GH so I stuck to it. So your just using 5ml of micro and 10ml of bloom with no grow with their additives?

I see you have some perlite mixed with your coco. How are you feeding them with your mix (feed, water, feed or just feeding with nutes all the time)and are you fushing at all?

I have my sour k looking good right now, but my GWS isn't looking to good. I just gave them a new mix hope it works out for them.

Thanks for the info Thund.

I feed every time I water and I water 3 times a day and yea just 5ml Micro 10ml Bloom and there addivtives at half dose and it's working out GREAT as you can see...

Think I could be having problems with my plants from ammonia toxicity? the upper leaves are curled and spotted with some small brown spots which all looks like nute burn.

Possibly too much chlorine in my tap? let it evaporate before using maybe?

Here you go.. the ones that are real spotty are jack herrer, the one with the big fan leaves that are curled bad is the satori..
