I have a sealed room, and I burn sulphur for 4 hours, once a week, during the dark period. Works like a charm to control powdery mildew on strains that get it.

Make sure your room is really sealed--you'll know if it is when you burn the sulfur, any leaks and you will smell it--much more potent than even the dankest herb.

I use it up to 14 days before harvest. Good luck.

Not to be a dick at all. I'm new here too, but you could try and do what I just did for you in 30 seconds without making a new thread for something that plenty of info already exist.

let's start with some more info.
what kind of burner do you have?
is there a heating coil, a ceramic bulb, or a thermostatically controlled heating plate?
burn with lights OFF only!
otherwise your plants will have a phytotoxic response.
burning more than 8 hours is useless unless you're sterilizing a moldy room.
in veg and in bloom i burn 6 hours from when the lights shut off.
if you exhaust, the fans need to be turned off.
oscillating/circulating fans need to be turned off.
fill the cup no more than a half inch with sulfur for max efficacy.
burn at least once a week till week 5 of flower.
some report greater efficacy if plants are misted before the burn.
have fun.

from what i read you want to have it on 1-2 hrs before the lights turns on and then vent the room before entering. hope that helps!!

i run mine in veg right up until the lights come back on(6hrs) and then vent the room.
i also have the 150 dollar model, not the diy ghetto model, so it's only vaporizing the sulfur rather than burning it. if your burner kicks out voluminous clouds of sulfur smoke, now you'll know why.... mine is more like an ethereal fog......

So anyway there is no harm in sulpher vapour what so ever......

Oxodiseation of sulpher yes to an extent but the vapor will cause no TOXICITY of the plants or enviroment.

The vapour changes the ph of the leaf surfaces and pests ect are punished I killed the worst batch of mites this way totally IRADICATED THE MOTHERFUCKERS.

The 1 to buy is the "HOTBOX SULPHUME" its used in the veg tunnels that they grow your fruit and veg in down at waitrose or where ever.. You use it to run for 4 hrs for 4 inconsecutive nights this is the Instructions,, it burns approx 1-2gramms of sulpher per hour, but this hotbox regulates the temp so you don't even use that much, It workes great. And it will break breeding cycles of pests and it is intollerable. LOL

I just recently bought a sulfer burner, was going to try it this weekend...

My only question is, how much of a smell should I expect? Is the whole neighborhood going to smell like burnt sulfer, or is it easily controllable?

if your room is perfectly sealed off nothing else will smell.
except few rooms really are totally sealed.
it's a safer bet to say the whole house will smell.

Thanks, big time. This is what I was hoping to hear...

Seeing as how they are usually used in greenhouses, and not in regular houses, a very bad sulfer odor was my biggest worry....

you brits and your funny spelling!
sulfur vapor is harmful if you breathe it in for prolonged periods
AND
it's potentially harmful to your plants with the lights on.
Lights off?
No problem......
let's not misinform the n00bs, mmmmkay?

Oscillating fans need to be turned off? I always read to leave them on to mix up the sulfur within the room. Is this incorrect? If so why?

Also, how much does a half an inch equate to? Half a cup? Quarter cup?

Humble1, Do you mist your plants with water first? I guess I'm wondering if you are part of the some that notice greater efficiency.

don't worry about exacts.
all you need to know is to use it for 2 hours every night when lights are off.
obviously it would be a good idea to turn exhaust fans off.
I don't run mine for the last week or so of flowering. Sulphur taste like crap, not a huge noticeable dif, but you'll find it.
my veg room is on 24/7 and i still run my burner in that room for 2 hours.

The thing about oscillating fans is that they tend to blow in the same pattern. Depending on the size of your room, this can leave areas that won't receive as much sulfur and other areas that will receive more than necessary. As long as you burn for long enough to fill the volume of your room you'll have an even coating all over, which is what you really want. Also, the inner fan motor components don't really like the sulfur coating they get if operating while burning.
Half an inch from the bottom of your cup that holds the sulfur in the burner, not a cup as in a unit of measurement. Sorry if that was confusing.
As far as spraying goes, I got that tip from greyskull and I've tried it periodically but don't notice much of a difference.

Thanks for the response. Kind of taking my own informal survey on spraying.

I've had a hard time figuring out if it is worth the trouble. If you keep on top of your sulfur schedule there is never any PM problems either way. I also started looking at spraying because of greyskull's post. I have since talked to people in the commercial floral and nursery business's. They told me they run their misters first before vaporizing the sulfur. Currently I spray my plants during veg before they get big and harder to move around. I think spraying with a higher PH water before sulfuring might be a good way to combat an actual outbreak of PM but I have never tried it.

If applied in the correct amount and not too close to harvest the only drawback I've seen is the rust and corrosion in the grow room after a couple of years. (I think it is the sulfur, not positive.)

I don't think it's just the sulfur that causes the corrosion but a combination of factors including (primarily) moisture.
