Soil is good, but coco is better

i have used coco as a soil amendment with great success, i started down this path in search of a method of watering that could be set up and trusted to work while i was away for a couple weeks, i use a drain to waste system and did a run with soil/coco/perlite that was great, with this mix i could use less food in the water and water less often, soaked well every 2 days, as opposed to straight coco, i watered that daily, i think there is a lot of different ways to use coco and and you should try some. it's good for starting seedlings, i have a aero cloner and use it for speed rooting but for slow and sure i just dip 'em in dip'n'gro and set them in beer cups of coco in a warm rubbermaid with a 20 watt light, a viola' a couple weeks, maybe a little longer, ready or planting. cocorocks! jc

Are you using the House and Garden Coco line or Aqua flakes? I was looking at doing coco in 15 gall pots for my next run, any info would be great!

im sold, been meaning to do the switch for a while now, just not into trays, res, rockwool hydroton, it was lots of work changing out the res keeping the tray from cloging etc... an so much waste and cleanup with rockwool - imo. so now Im going back to hydro, buying new trays, gona hand feed tell I set up some kind drip sys and do a feed to waste. already bought 10 sacks of biotonicare coco gro at $18 a bag (is that a good deal?) not their ready gro, my buddy used the ready gro an says it's to hot. cant wait to see the results so I too can canpare.

thanks bassmech for the photos nice looking buds.

although i am primarily working with hyrdo at the moment; i must say i do love me some coco. and i plan on working with this medium in 2010.

i'm impressed with how well it worked out. nice yeild brotha! Keep it up!

Is the advantage of coco you can water everyday? With soil I find my plants need watering about once a week in flower. However this stuff seems expensive.

ive recently been considering using coco. can it maintain beneficial bacteria and nematodes like soil, or what?

coco is great.... so is soil. You can pull weight with either one, why worry about it.

I like coco because it's much easier to clean and sweep up after than soil, slightly better yields...

but soil you don't have to use chemmy bottled nutrients. soil uses less water, and its cheaper.

--coco for indoors, soil for outdoors.... or is that too bold?

glad ta see some solid results, we will be fading into co-co in this garden, starting out with our more sativa leaning strains first.. wish us luck .. HHB

Could I get coco at places like home depot, lowes, walmart, etc?
And do you use coco right from the beginning? Is it good for sprouting seeds?

I've had some mixed luck either going to Green Thumb, or sometimes you can find basic basic things at lowe's. I hope that helps a lil bit as far as finding what you need! GL

seems like soil grown erb gets u higher, ive heard this from another grower on this thread. ive grown in both soil n coco and thats it. coco is pretty easy but u need a way to collect run off which doenst need to be alot or any at all but youll will get some even if u dont aim for it most times. to me soil plants grown well always look better then coco plants grown well, and buds under coco seem less dense to me though pretty dam big. i think im going back to soil amended with alot of perlite in soil based peat as i dont like the water needs of coco, ill add chems to this and get the best of both worlds. i mean there enough dna in a sqaure ft of soil via bacteria n fungi to circle the globe 5 times over, theres just so many things of bacterial origin n dirt that are alchemical in nature that straight coco with some chem salts arent going to acheive. ive yet to master coco though, i wont be useing it without 50 percent perlite again as just under the rootball in any container u use is just wasted space via the wet mash that coco is in this place in the container.. so in answering, both are pretty good, dirts messy and needs to be amended, coco is good straight out of the bag somewhat but needs alot of water which starts of fun then gets real old as it seems like u are always tending them. im a fem seeds, dirt with a one part food kind of guy, easy easy easy k.i.s.s method case closed.
