2010 Grow in Ontario

The season is still a couple months off for me but i though i would get my thread started early so i could ask questions while preparing my plots. 2 years ago, 3 friends and i had a good harvest, and that was my first time growing. This year is my first by myself.

Strains i will have in the ground

Guerilla gold F3
GGxC99 F3
Mandala #1
Haley's comet
and i will have a few seeds from an outdoor mix aswell as 4 clones of a local strain.

allright question time

I live in southern ontario, i will be putting around 45 plants out at the start of the year. i have 5 or 6 different spots i can spread them out on. My grow sites are located 4 kilometers into the woods off a country dirt road.

With the strains i have and the location im in, along with my inexperience will 45 seedlings to start off be enough to pull 5-6 pounds at harvest??(what i will need for the next year) i am expecting some heavy losses due to my lack of growing experience.

Last year we had frequent fly overs in my area. i didnt notice any in the area of my grow sites for this year, but i am still kinda worried. most of my plants are short statured, how easily can they be spotted??

my native soil is really good, i was thinking of just hauling a whole lot of cow and horse manure to my sites and mixing it with my native soil. i dont have an incredible amount of money for nutes and expensive soil mixes. Any tips on this one is greatly appreciated.

sorry to ramble and ask a lot

Thanks a lot guys

This is all pie in the sky because I dont know how much sun your getting in
"4 kilometers into the woods"
Lets start with some easy pot math:
45/2=22.5 females with a 80/20 loss rate due to weather/animals/insects/mold

That gives you 18 females to harvest.

I am only familiar with a couple of your strains
GG aprox 2-3 oz/plant
GGxC99 4-5 oz/plant

If everything went well not knowing your mix of strains I am guessing more like 3-4lbs with what you have there.

One other thing concerns me:
"My grow sites are located 4 kilometers into the woods off a country dirt road."
Your car is parked on a dirt road alone lets say you visit 2 times per month over 4-5 months starts to add up.

Do you have a enter/exit strategy?

You will need protection from slugs, bunnies, deer, carnivores and maybe wood rats. Dig out all roots from other plants and then mix your manure with the native soil. Only used composted manure. Uncured manure will burn. And then there is the watering. One gallon of water weighs 7 pounds.

Don't make trails/paths and pack out all trash. Never come and go the same way. Take a dog along if you have one. Need reasons to be where you are.

Hamstring- thanks for the math, that helps me out, i knew the yield on those strains weren't crazy high, im hoping to pull a couple good yielders outta my outdoor mix and the clones im putting out. to get to my spots i have 4 or 5 different entrance points as not to leave extremely distinct trails. these entrance points are all within 10 minutes walk of a farm my family owns, i can park my car there and walk to my sights i think. So hopefully the only time i will need to have a car on the side of the road is harvest time.

Lazlo- I have a resevoir set up to help me get a head start on the water situation, also there are numerous streams that flow through the area. i just made sure to plant a good distance away from them, because the Police fly streams right? im stocking up on wire for fences to put up around my seedling, hopefully that will help keep the critters away.

Let me know if im screwing up terribly, thanks a lot guys

This is open for debate but i like to keep my cages very small maybe 12 -15inches high and 6-8 inches in diameter. That way I have security and protection. I also choose green wire covered in a PVC type covering every big box store sells it. I have found in my environment once the seedlings grow out of small cages I have no problems. When I have had problems with large plants it’s always been rats or muskrats chewing the outer layer of the lower stem off girdling the plant and killing it. So the small cages work well for me anyways.

im just now getting my seeds in order.. im sick of shitty cutting from people i want the good good crush and seeds i think are the best way ..

i usually do my standard with most of my babies then change up a few of them to test new nutes and mediums and stuff...
i wish to get some mandala seeds.. i bet you gonna have a great time with those strains WOW!

well sir, you and i are sharing two strains. I also have gg3 and ggxc99. remember, ggs aren't supposed to get huge. 4oz supposed to be the max. but quality over quantity.

I'm also growing in ontario. don't worry at all about fly overs. they wouldn't notice 45 plants in a small area. they're looking for large-scale operations. regardless, we all know the war on weed isn't a big deal here, so they don't fly around much.

for amending your site:
-remember to keep the soil loose; roots can't move well in packed earth. and they can suffocate.
-straight-up manures (like cow) can be a bit strong. worm castings are really great (although a bit expensive). I use it when the plants are young. the more the better.
-on the whole, I usually use peat or coco as my main substrate. for nutes i use some compost and an additive like Fox Farm - I had great results with something called 'Fox Farm American Pride'.

Dog poop, ivory soap in a sock, human hair, pee (I keep it in milk jugs until I need it) can all be used to keep deer away, never had trouble with anything but deer myself.

For me Espoma Plant Tone is the best nute base to work in your outdoor grows. Its organic, has micros, as well as beneficial fungi. They also make a product called biotone which is the bomb. The main reason I use it, besides the fact that it kicks ass, is that it is available at Lowes and Home Depot in large bags. I don't like grow stores. They make me paranoid. One good handful mixed into your grow hole will set your plants on the golden road. Maybe a supplemental of flower nutes much later.

i am also in southern ont i also like using alot of coco.. sometimes i cheap out and just use promix.

i like to use compost if i have it.. if not i just use big bud a and b with molases.. seems to work for me.. the sun does most of the work outside. youll be fine!!!

BTW i grow in 5 gal bucks or pots so if i have to move plants i can... i also lock em up at night.. and force flow come begining of august begining in june i give only 12 hours of light so i got some bud...
now to continue my clones/seeds hut i really wanna start with some top notch this year!

Coco -- I've used it the past few years to mix into native soils. Easy to carry in. I bring it in in the winter / early spring so it gets a few months to rinse out and acclimatize.

Worm castings -- There is a worm farm in my area, so I pick up some worm castings to mix in with the native soil, 10-20% or so.

Slugs! -- ate my entire crop last summer, while I hadn't seen a single one in previous years. I'll be doing something for the slugs this spring (diatomaceous earth?)

Being noticed -- I think your car parked unattended and trails you create are likely to be bigger hazards than actually spotting the plants, especially that far into the woods.

Good luck!

In a guerilla grow without much attention, GG will usually yield 2 to 3 ounces. However, I would definitely not say that 4 ounces is max. I've grown several 8 or 9 ouncers, even in guerilla situations and I've seen others do quite a bit better. Hey, THC123 grew one that weighed over 20 ounces, but that one stayed in veg much longer than usual due to light pollution.

If you are growing in a backyard type situation where you can provide lots of care, the average would be about 4 ounces.

Boroboro- ya slugs out here are terrible, around a few plants im going to dig a few holes around my plants and throw some containers with old beer in there, the slugs are attracted to the beer and the fall into the container, it worked in my grandfathers garden, hopefully itll work for me.

Greens- im pumped to try this GG, hopefully i get a couple high yielders

i hope this year is dryier and i actually get some decent clones or beens...
the beeer slug thing does work..
also if you put salt on a slug they dont like it another old timer told me.
