hello everyone n first off thanks to everyone on this site for the information the site contains. with that outa the way i wanted a stash of my own that i could say that is mine and that i grew it and frankly paying for a weed that wasnt man made and comes from the earth without any chemical additives to cause addictiveness(<-- reason i belive its still illegal). but paying 200+ a Oz is retarted for sumthin that takes $50 to produce atleast 5 Oz if it costs that much. just my opinion and im sure many others same opinion except for the people that are selling it wich means money in their pockets...but w/e on to my cab.
It is ghetto and made with supplys on hand with minimal cash spent and will be upgraded gradually as cash becomes availiable. foil dull side out no mylar. cardboard doors and backing. passive intake with a old style steel round 10" in or so diameter single speed floor fan. 3 speed computer fan for circulation.
Dwc consists of plastic coffee cans with an air stone at the bottom and homemade netcups approx. 4in. along with the plastic coffee cans i use plastic candy jars. with maxigro-maxibloom as nutes using water from my fish tank.
cab size is : 15"in deep , 26"in high , 21"in wide with 17"in of space from floor to top for grow space can be expanded to about 19"in after i fix a few begininer mistakes when i made the box.
Lights are 268w total: 4x 42w 2700k, 2x 23w 2700k, 2x 27w 5500k?(<-not sure but it says Daylight) belive this adds up to 16800 total lumens too. also can be 200lumens less as the box of a set of lights states that base up produces 1600lumens as with the base down it produces 1500? didnt know this could matter. but thats pretty much it besides the exaust fan only runs when lights are on and circulation is on 24/7 for the time being. on to the pics... on the left. first this started n ended up turnin into this... can anyone tell me what happened to my little girl? its only these 2 branches and a few leaves that were in directly infront of the circulation fan. as u can see the whole plant has not been affected just this 1 side? thanks guys for ur time
also i just chopped my other plant that was growin in the cab and got 80.3g wet not counting the other 2 branches that were previously cut and weighed to 13.6g wet and about 6.5 g quickdried(LOL big LOL never again) but that would be about 94g wet from my first grow and ill update what the dry weight is in a week or so.

looking good. I think the 2 dried out parts of your plant might be from sitting in front of the fan. The increased circulation can cause the plant to transpire too much and dry out. Just a guess though cuz you mentioned the fan was right there. If that's the problem just point it towardws the ground or wall to kinda buffer the airflow a little.

nothing wrong with a ghetto setup if you need a cheep source of mylar the insides of doritos bags or something like that works well.

Great grow dude. What is your humidity just before lights on? My guess is that the bud die-off is related to your exhaust fan turning off, and they're getting battered with humid air and acting like mini evaporative coolers and freezing...or something. Maybe not that exactly but turning off the exhaust is what stands out to me as unusual anyway. I used to do the same until I learnt about plants "breathing" and so forth.

thanks for the replies grow, and scrub. i have recently moved the fan to the bottom of the cab facing the front at an angle to buffer the air flow a bit as grow said. this came as a common sence move as "theres only that problem there that must be whats causing it type of conclusion".
also as scrub stated about the plants breathing i understand that concept with the fresh air always being brought in but along with the fresh air at lights off was cold air being winter time here n all the temps got down to pretty low with the exaust going with lights out. thats why i changed it and it was workin great till it got a lil colder for a few days here last week. and then this happened while the circulation fan was running pretty much over night with the first symptoms as i belive not 100% sure that the cold air from the circulation fan actually kinda freeze dried the 2 buds. also scrub the exaust will be on 24/7 when it gets warmer and dosent draw all this cold air in at lights out. also its not very humid in my house and really dry most of the year except in the summer time when its all closed up and the a.c is running. its just weird that it happened all of a sudden and has been running that way sence the end of november threw the harvest of my first plant.

Will these buds recover from the mistake or should i try to chop the dried out parts off so they dont mold up and let the unaffected part grow still? or just leave it be and see if she recovers?

Actually that looks like bud rot to me. I had it on a POG cola a few grows back. Try pulling the bud apart a little, but not ripping it apart to look further inside of it. If you see gray/white spider web like structures its bud rot which is a form of mold. Unfortunately its an internal disease. Likely for me I was nearing the end of my flowering cycle and just removed the infected parts and harvested the rest. Smoked the uninfected areas etc and nothing bad happened to me.

If you do not see any discoloration of the internal parts of the bud and is simply just dried out I would personally remove the buds before they do start to mold. Injured plants are more susceptible to disease. Keep the humidity low. Never let it go above 50% in flowering.

its not rot its just dried out. and ill be watching to make sure it dosent mold. its only the top half of the 2 colas as u can see in the last pic.
i could cut the top half of the dried out colas off but what would that do to the plant? besides stressing it further? and would the remaining half of the top grow into a normal cola or form a few smaller nugs?

Personally I'd just chop off the dry area of the buds. This late in flowering I don't think it will be worth it to leave em on. As tokin said you don't want mold on there and it might form if you leave those buds on. If you just chop them off now the plant can focus on other branches instead of trying to repair itself, kinda like thinning out the lower popcorn buds at this point.
If you're set on leaving the buds on and hoping they'll grow a little, at the least trim them up and remove any dry/dead plant matter. Anything dried out isn't going to recover, and might get "absorbed" if any bud matter starts growing up from underneath.

i did cut the dead bud off of 1 of them and left the rest that was still green and alive. the buds are about 3"in long and like 1/4 of the tops are dead. im thinkin that i leave the part of the main cola that is alive and trim the popcorn and everything on those 2 branches except for the remniants of the 2 main colas on those 2 branches that arent crispy. will this still produce a decent cola on that branch or give it a shot and if it works, great! if it dosent then another What not to do in the book.
and yes that was my main concern as if the dried bud managed to get embeded in part of the new growth and i dont want mold. and am goin to take both ur guys advice and get rid of the dead plant matter. and also trim up the entire branch to focus the energy in that branch to the damaged cola that remains removing all growth down to the main stem on those 2 branches. this is still a learning experience and everyone learns new things everyday and a leson learned is a leson learned good or bad and that comes with experience.

the great part of this hobby is you are growing a weed. You can make a ton of mistakes and still enjoy some decent smoke, usually better than street that goes for $200 an oz, BUT to grow the really good stuff, will require an investment. Now that investment will pay for itself within 2-3 small grows.

its already paid for itself in my eyes! i got bud i grew dryin out waitin to be smoked thats pretty much an acomplishment in itself i think and ill find out how good the fruits of my labor actually are when the time comes...lol. but the investment from now will have to come as the funds come as they are limited. And honestly ill be content with shwag as long as i dont have to pay for it and can grow it...lol . but everyone always wants better!!! and will get better with the experience and the knowledge of the fine people here at icmag...lol.
if i were to sell it yes it would be a self investing project where the money that comes out would go back into the product but i smoke alot and then in return would run out of bud and then have to go back buyin some till the next harvest and yea i rather just smoke it n not deal with people. only real upgrading i want to do is add mylar or an equivilant and another set of lights to make 10 total lights and a more economical dwc/hydro setup. l

ill get pics up ina few of the mutilation...lol. but i ended up cutting the tops off of both of the dried branches leaving 2 of the lower nugs/nodes at the top that had no visable damage. The remaining 9 tops look good with a few leaves with some crispyness that i havent trimmed off yet but that hasnt spread and the rest of the leaf with the crispy edge looks good and healthy as it can look with a crispy tip...lol. pics ina few

glad you finally got around to chopping those tops. first time growing? i wasnt paying attention if you said already. but when you top a chop lol the weeds kicking in. when you chop a top the next node takes over as the new top. all topping those tops would do is make 2 main colas on top instead of just one.

yea there was 11 main colas till i chopped those 2. now 9 . it was hard cuz the colas were already 3-4"in long ...lol

thats all for now. i also tried a popcorn bud that was dired threw off of my first grow and for no cure time i was surprised that it tasted as good as it did wasnt harsh had a very good smell when i broke it down also burned smothly with no popping or sizziling in the bowl. let me remind u the rest of the bud is still just now drying on the outside of the bigger nugs. i dont think u need $100's of dollars in grow equipment and overpriced nutes to produce high quality smoke IMHO when the uncured nug i smoked off of my plant got me just as high as the sour diesel i was smoking last night...lol

guess ill just start back up where i left off... i used the setup above for the past 3 years just changing a light bulb here and there and adding a rubbermaid sweater box for the res. my last run i ended up with just under a qp. pulled enough outa it that i have sence upgraded my box to an armoir thats going to be 400watt hps/ dwc/ scrog. with a mother/clone room and drying room all in 1. if anyone would like to see what i came up with and built ill put pics up just let me know if anyones interested... waitin for some beans to pop so i can get back to happiness!(not paying for weed) again...lol. and besides its still kinda micro.
