A Question About the Northern Lights strain

A question for the growers here that have grown Nirvana's Northern Lights..

How strong of an odor is Northern Lights when it is flowering indoors?

I guess what I am asking is that if I grow a 4 plant scrog in a 10x10 room, do I have to worry about the neighbors smelling it next door if I don't use a carbon filter and just vent my room through the attic or crawl space? I haven't grown it before and am wondering if it is a strong skunk, a fruity berry...what should I expect?

I Appreciate any help in advance.:watchplant:

a 10x10 room of any mature, fully budded cannabis plants are going to smell. NL isnt that bad, but if your neigbors are close, they'll show up about 50 days into flower.

As far as smell goes Northern lights seems to be notorious for being a low odor strain..

but if your neighbors are close enough that you even need to be worrying about them then i wouldn't risk it..

basically.. get a carbon filter, you wont regret it.

odor control never hurts
that said, i just did a grow of nl#5 with no odor control, just wasn't needed
you see quite a few different experiences with nl and odor
the particular strain/pheno i have is real low odor
and the longer it flowers, the less it smells, which is a bit different

Is the Nirvana NL a NL #5? that is the only one that is low odor right?

i've never done it
but a first time grower mate of mine done some over xmas
and he done jolly well 12oz from 400w

and a most enjoyable smoke it was too, full of chrystals:biggrin:

that sounds right, just grown the nl#5(from highgrade-seeds)
but if it's not nl#5, looks like it varies a lot

I think the others are more sativa in the mix and longer finish times too. Should be tons of reports on the Nirvana version and if not you could probably email the boo before you buy and get some info.

I used to occasionally get it back in the day... late 80's/early 90's and it was some of the best back then. From the standpoint of potency it is probably still right up there. I will eventually run it, but a lot of stuff working right now. A friend decided not to grow and donated 4 varieties of seeds to me so it will be a while.

A good compliment to NL #5 in terms of odor and strength but with a very nice, clear, head high is Apollo 11. Just cut my first check-for-sex-sampler down and it is a VERY unique high.

IMHO every strain needs odor control but going into a vented attic would work fine for the A11. It is a finicky little bitch though! Being a newbie I struggled with it quite a bit. From what I understand, NL #5 is very easy and is a great choice for a newb. I kinda regret not starting there after the obligatory bagseed run.

well said, that's me and it worked great, keeping the mother strain going through reveg and clone until i find something better
that may be a while

Thank you everyone for the comments, it has helped me out..out of curiosity and accepting that different phenos have different odors - what scent/odor would you say Northern Lights has mostly?

Would you say the odor to it is earthy..skunky..berry-ish...?? what odor or smell would you say it gives off?

I will be finding out soon enough I guess, but you know what is said about curiosity and the cat

Thank you very much once again for your opinions, experience and help.

Edit: I am not sure if it is #5 or not. I bought them last year and am only now getting to grow some of them.

It's been a few years since I smoked it but it had great bag appeal, a very neutral odor and a slightly earthy/piney/dankish undertone. This is not the strain for flavor and smell. I don't think any version of NL is known for its taste or smell. What I used to get though was 1 hit wonderbud and I'm pretty sure current stuff will be too. Grab the bong, a nice beverage and the remote...

NL is the ass kick in a lot of current hybrids, so if you have any desire to do some pollen chucking, that should be a good starting point. That, the potency, the low odor, and the newbie friendliness are probably why it is still a fairly popular strain.

Good luck in your grow!

I have two NL about 5 weeks into flower. Both appear very similar, although one has slightly more hybrid vigor than her sister. The faster grower gives off a very fruity sweet smell that is very pleasing. But only with a bud rub can I smell her. The other plant has absolutely no smell, even after violating a bud there is no smell at all. A first in my gardens.

nl#5 has one particular claim on odor, pine
it smells like a pine tree when you break up the buds
as 10jed said, it doesn't have big flavor, but from a vaporizer the first few vapes have a light pine flavor
