I've added this to the news section cause it does include marijuana issues. Dr. Grof was a professor of mine in college, and the Shulgins will be there! Dr. Andrew Weil will be teleconferencing! This is the ultimate psychedelic conference...

Psychedelic Science Conference, April 15-18, 2010

Greetings,

The following message comes from Rick Doblin, Ph.D., NORML Board Member
and Founder and Executive Director of the Multidisciplinary Association
for Psychedelic Studies (www.maps.org)

Dear NORML Members and Friends,

I would like to invite you to attend Psychedelic Science in the 21st
Century, (www.maps.org/conference), April 15-18, 2010, in San Jose,
California, with a $50 discount for NORML supporters. This is the largest
conference dedicated to psychedelics to take place in the U.S. in 17
years. The conference will feature presenters from around the world.
Ironically, there is a global renaissance in psychedelic research while
medical marijuana research is still being blocked. (www.maps.org/mmj/)

Among dozens of world renowned presenters are:
-Stanislav Grof, M.D., co-founder of transpersonal psychology
-Ralph Metzner, Ph.D., consciousness researcher & student of Timothy Leary
and Ram Dass
-David Nichols, Ph.D., medicinal chemist and pharmacologist, LSD
researcher
-Franz Vollenweider, M.D., Swiss neuroscientist
-Alex and Allyson Grey, visionary artists
-Earth and Fire Erowid, Founders of erowid.org, the greatest online
resource about psychoactive substances
-Michael Mithoefer, M.D., psychiatrist who conducted MAPS’ MDMA/PTSD study

One of the most exciting parts of the event will be a banquet to honor
psychedelic luminaries, the godfather and godmother of MDMA, authors of
TIHKAL and PIHKAL, Sasha and Ann Shulgin. Tickets for the benefit dinner
are limited and are likely to sell out.

The conference is scheduled to take place simultaneously with the Patients
Out of Time medical marijuana conference in Rhode Island. Integrative
medicine proponent Andrew Weil, M.D. will speak by video link to both
events.

I hope that you will join all of the amazing people attending the event.
Medical doctors, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals can
earn continuing education credits at the conference.

For more information or to register, visit www.maps.org/conference or call
MAPS at (831) 429-MDMA (6362). There is a $50 discount on the
registration fee for MAPS members that we are extending to NORML
supporters. Just indicate on our registration page that you are a NORML
supporter and heard about this offer from the NORML listserve.

Psychedelically yours,

Rick Doblin, Ph.D.

The most realistic way to "attend" to this conference seems to pass through the door of a more accessible fridge, full of psychedelics :)

I find it amazing that Albert Hoffman lived to what, 103? I missed him at the Amsterdam Psychedelics conference about 10 years ago.

The Shulgins are in their mid to late 80s.

I guess doing psychedelics promotes long life..., no?

Does anyone here consider cannabis to be a psychedelic?

Yes, I do :) And I'd say it is the kindest psychedelic :) That can be used every day year after year...
And, of course, I'm not talking about mind-numbing indicas.

So the ol' geezer made it out of Oz last year, eh? Still up to old tricks I see. Good on him. Too bad he refused to let me interview him when I was in Oz... I was nearby too...

Great update skip ,would love to attend ..But its a million miles away.

I recently read a great interview with bear a.o.s 3 ,by psychedelic enthusiast and counter culture writer Bruce Eisner on his website. Many people claim these days ,that they no longer see visuals. In the interview Bear mentions/gaurentees that ,if thats the case. The eye is the answer,as its connected directly to the brain.Im prepared and will be testing this theory tommorrow, with bobby, phil and some old friends at bayfront park in miami.......warm vibrations to all:artist:

That's f'ing awesome!! Maybe one day people will see that there are certain substances that exist that can help expand the conscious and that can only be seen as a good thing.

Cool deal!

I wish psychedelics would effect me. I've eaten copious amounts of shrooms, taken lsd, and 2-ce and none of them have had an effect on me at all.

DMT though had some effect, but nothing like everyone around me experienced.

I am just impervious to psychedelics, it is pretty fucking lame.

you must not be eating the right stuff. in the last year I have seen things lift off of alex grey art sitting on a table, I have seen signs turn into melted colors, I've seen auras shooting off of phish and dead band members, I've seen walls breathe and words on paper jumble. geez, I ate a lot of L last year! :hide::smokey:

MAPS does some phenomenal work. Their staff showed mad love while I was locked up sending me books on my birthday and the bimonthly newsletter that I still get today. This would be a most exciting conference to attend. If any of you can;t make it, I strongly suggest attending an Alex Grey paiting/live interactive exhibit, good vibes all around

If you have ever read Baba Ram Dass' book, BE HEre Now, in it he speaks of his first meeting with his soon to be guru. The guru inquired as to the magical substance in his possesion (LSD...white lightning from owsley o be exact) very strong stuff, several hundred micrograms per dose. The guru then ingested several of the tabs, leaving the then Dr. Richard Alpert wondering what kind of face melter was instore for his holiness....however, nothing at all occured. Mystifying indeed, but if one believes in the sacred and cosmic connection that the discovery of LSD has in relation to the universe...it only makes sense;):artist:
