i have an idea for a scrog setup.i have 4 25 galloon buckets(the ones people use as coolers, they have ropes for handles)i was going to cut a 4 foot by 4 foot piece of good solid wire screen and make 4 angled brackets and bolt the 4 angle brackets on 4 sides of the top of the bucket and then bolt the screen on top of the bracket,so its a permanent setup.i want 2 in the flower room with 3 plants in each bucket, and at some point in flowering start another 2 in my veg room, maybe a month before harvest.when i harvest i can move the plants out of the flower room and the veg plants could move into the flower room right away.I have never done scrog before so if anyone wants to comment or offer some advise that would be great! at what point to you trip the plants?how high out of the screen should they be?should they just be poking out or out like 3-4 inches?i have no clue.i hear scrog is 1 of the best ways to yield big.

It all depends on what you are trying to achieve but, with good vertical height I would always let the tops grow vertically after I finished training for at least 3 days before switching the lights. I think its good to let the plants get a good head of steam before the switch.
In a cabinet when vertical height is poor and growing with a 250w then its possible to train for the first 7-10 days of 12/12, you just need to know your strains and how many days they will stretch for. Some strains I have trained until day 10 of 12/12 and then let them stretch above the screen for the next few days before they stop stretching at about 5 inches above the screen, over the next few weeks until they are finished they will grow a few more inches and finish up at 8-10 inches above the screen, which is about perfect for a 250w light. The amount of training and how to train is very strain specific, as you get a few grows done with the same strains you will eventually get it sorted out unless you have lots of vertical and then miss timing the switch is not a big deal as long as you have a way of supporting the long colas.

what you are suggesting should work but you will need to make sure the plants in the pot are all the same cut - otherwise wome will stretch more than others.
or you can do what i do and use 4 smaller pots wih modular scrogs that fit together to make the canopy

in my setup that was linked above i tend to let the stretch fill the screen for me. the final repot and when you do it is also a factor that influences stretch. o go from 1 to 4 gallon pots and flip them at the same time - this gives loads of stretch but probably delays flowering for a week or so whilst the roots grow.

scrog is easier in practice than theory. best to do it and you will soon learn :)

i recommend searching for anything by a dude called bigfatj. he was a serious scrogger from the OG days whose threads are salvaged on here someplace. pretty useful stuff. verdant is correct about doing a modular one first until you get the hang of it. scrog isn't for the faint of heart either- lots of peeps are worried about the torture that the plants undergo during the process, but we're not in it for the plants, we're in it for the BUDS. personally i have always let the screen fill up at least 80% and then flipped lights. the stretch will (at least with my strain) fill the remaining screen and still have enough stretch to send the ends of the shoots up through the screen to start making those awsome colas we all want. word of advice- give youself room between the screen and pots for your hands or you'll wish you did. scrog is pretty high maintenance.
