Pot, Vancouver, & The Olympics

Interesting article on cannabis use by olympians. They're calling the winter Olympics this year the Pot Olympics!

The Winter Games commence Feb. 12 in Vancouver, British Columbia, the most marijuana-friendly host city in Olympic history, a place where restrictions on pot are loose enough to allow "consumption lounges," some of which are extending their hours to accommodate a wave of jet-lagged international visitors....

So how's this for absurd? While fans, coaches, sponsors (and yes, members of the media) might be lighting up at the New Amsterdam Cafe or the Vapor Lounge on Hastings Street in downtown Vancouver, the hockey players and figure skaters will be peeing in cups just a few blocks away, hoping they don't fail the whiz quiz.

I thought a few years back when that Olympian was stripped of his medals after failing a drug test bc of marijuana and then given them back shortly thereafter bc they deemed that since marijuana was not a performance enhancing drug it would not be a disqualifier... Im having a hard time remembering the guys name or the event but it was a winter event, maybe skiing or snowboarding or something but still I remember the rest of the details somewhat well.

Yeah its pretty ironic since the big Michael Phelps deal happened... What a bunch of bs..... If you can use coffee, tobacco, alcohol, or asprin, cannabis shouldn't be any different...

first time i went to vancouver and BC was amazing. Its a beautiful place.

My family went out to dinner together and afterwards we walked back to our car and some people must have just finished smoking cuz it REEEEKED inside the parking garage. I laughed...good ol canada!

Cannabis wasn't on the restricted list until Ross Rebagliati (Canadian snowboarder from B.C. now a political candidate http://www.rossrebagliati.com/ ) won his snowboarding medal (the first gold in that sport awarded) and tested positive for it -- they first stripped him of his medal, but then when they realized it wasn't restricted they had to give the medal back to him. After that incident I believe they then added it to the restricted list. Curios that they were testing for a drug that wasn't even on their restricted list in the first place.
