Hi HG,
I use party cups for their first home once rooted, but then transplant up to a 1/2 gal pot for vegging.

For holes, what I prefer is to heat up a large nail and melt the holes. Simple though smelly and no risk of cracking which is a problem if you use a drill.

5 holes seems to work good for me...never had any root issues.

I basically use any left over goods i can. The party cups are good for veg. i use yogurt cups for clones and seeds. If you want something bigger you can always use milk cartons.

make sure when you punching the holes that they are on the lowest part of the cup though, otherwise drainage won't be as good.

id recomend with party cups that u make not just holes in the bottome but a few on the lower sides , really helps with drainage.

great ideas guys.....when browsing today i noticed somehting new with the party cups a square bottom pure genius for stability keep your eyes out...... i have another question do u think if i vegged in say 20 ounce soda bottles the plant wouldnt get as wide as in a regular party cup?

I start my seeds in 18 oz party cups....actually, two cups. One cup inside another. The inside cup has no bottom; and is cut up the side all the way. It lets everything slide out real easy: so your can check the roots or transplant very easy....
