H3ad goes Coco

What size pots are you guys using?

I think im getting problems because im not penetrating all the root mass when i water (even with getting 10-20% runoff)

I run 2.5gal sqaure pots and I notice I creep into nute burn issues unless I run with a ton of runoff.. about 25% or so.

Are you guys running taller/thinner pots? or pots that aren't very big?

I´m running in 3 gallon pots. I have more than 25% runoff each morning. At least 30. Then in the evening I water again, just a couple of cups to moisten things with no runoff.
What makes you say you´re not penetrating the root mass man?
Incidentally, even though I haven´t had nute burn issues, I have pulled my EC back to around 0.9 as I´m using lots of runoff. I read about it on this thread and it´s been good.

.9 what is that in terms of ML of micro and bloom per gallon?

not penetrating because unless i get a ton of runoff i will notice the water will tend to only drip out of one side of the pot every time.. etc.. so the areas that dont get the daily flush would be hot with nutes

So head, with a finished flowering height of about 2.5 feet what would be a good pot size? 2.5 gal overkill?

In 21 litres I´m using 22ml micro 32ml bloom right now.
I see what you mean about the penetration thing, sorry.

If the coco never dries out, I cannot see where penetration could be an issue, water moves through wet coco readily. If you are drying them out... why? and watering slowly will increase absorption a lot.

First, sorry... but this is not correct

Agreed, coco is a fine medium. Although, plant size is all about root size, and you can't squeeze more roots into a pot full of coco than the same pot full of high quality soil.

Coco indeed allows more roots inside same pot as best soil in the world. Is a question of density of the medium, so roots have more space top grow (and more air, etc). Of course, if you put 3 atm. pressure on coco, this is reduced; but at normal pressure you put coco or soil in a pot; coco has lots more space so you can squeeze much more roots inside. I don't have the tech data here, but in case someone is interested, I will look for them.

Disclaimer: Sorry for correcting you Rosy, as I've learn LOTS from all the great work you make here; even if you see little posts; is a long time I'm around.... I ǘe heard this thing on other growers, and is not correct.
Maybe is time to make my first contribution to the community; as a little payback... Yeah, I will try to set some security up and post my grow in ICMag ... thanks for inpiring me ...

Great plants there :D And I also have very good experiences with gh 3 part nutes, used them for several years before the switch to canna. And they can be adapted to just about any medium I found. Only reason I went canna is the ease of mixing two equal parts. Guess I´m lazy, but my plants looked just as good in coco with gh nutes. :kewlpics: for sure......

Funny how people come in here and say things like this, it's like they didn't even read the first post!!! 2 parts is all that's used silly!! I use 3 bottles total including my Mag Amped and for those who have Cutting Edge Solutions nutrient sampler pack with the gal jug 3part and qt additives they work GREAT with this system!

I'm in Ready Gro Moisture Formula watering 2-3 times a day feeding each watering. My mix in veg right now is 5ml Micro 7.5ml Bloom and 2.5ml Mag Amped and it's working great! I had issues in the beginning with the P and K too high causing a N lock out and I had mg def but after I dropped the Bloom a bit and add the Mag Amped and drop PH to 5.5 my girls look like this!

canopy with all but 3 plants at 8 days veg which is the middle row..

here's a Deep Chunk x Blue Moonshine I think? aka LB#5

and a Double Purple Blowfish looking purrrrrrdddddyyyy :smokeit:

just curious head when transplanting clones into veg under flouros for the time being do i need to cut back on your nute system?

I usually don't. as soon as I'm seeing roots growing out of the rw cubes I'm feeding...
Now with that being said... I have in the past with some sativas, but usually just by watering plain water once in a while.

there's soooo many right ways to grow herb.
best advice I've ever given... learn to read your plants...

Well I finished my side by side.
General Hydro 6/9 with 5ml sweet
vs
Custom Blend of Fox Farm/H&G/Botanicare

GH gives
97N 60P 107K 63MG 57S 97Ca

Custom
91N 81P 107k 54MG 18S 87Ca (Tiger Bloom does not sulfer and Ca so they are probable a lil higher)

H3ad with sweet

My Custom H3ad

Strain is my 8 week Jock Horror pics are after I plucked bunch of fan leaves.

In the 1st post h3ad said P was a lil low so I upped it on my blend

Conclusion so far with the Cannastats calculator and H3ads ratio for Coco the brand of nutes u use does not make much of a difference. Final weight is not in yet but I expect them all to be around the same. The only difference I see is maybe a lil taste wise.

Not to let anyone re-write history...
I recently saw "Someone Else" claiming to have originated using 6/9 in coco... This is simply not true...

I was growing in coco with 6/9 before that other person ever bought their first brick of coco, and I was the one who convinced them to try coco in the first place... The other person was growing with 8/14 in pro mix in flower, and using all three parts in veg. At least that is what they told me at the time, and what I observed in their garden. I was also using their formula when I was in pro-mix, but I did the research and calculation to come up with 6/9 as the all-round coco ratio. I would not recommend a 6/9 based formula for pro-mix, it is coco-specific, meant to be closer to coco nute lines than lucas or 'almost lucas'... I know it may seem petty for me to post this, but I don't care... just keeping it real. need no revisionist historians.

Right on. Ratio and concentration are the important things... as long as all the elements the plant needs are there, in the correct ratios, and concentrated within a range which allows ionic salts to dissociate... and as long as you do not feed too late into flower... you'll grow good buds.

I dropped the Micro a lil late into flower and I adjusted my custom blend to be close to the same but still had some N.
