Any Cigar Aficionados

Best friends :D

When I have some free time to relax, a joint and a cohiba are the best thing ever :D
I prefer coronas especiales or lanceros. A corona in the pic.

WOW!

We have some great tastes in cigars!

Right on, Cuba definately does not produce the best cigars anymore...they are good but VERY inconsistent as of the last 15-20 years. Cuban production was ramped up during the 1990's cigar renaissance, and that's when the consistency of quality began its freefall.

In my opinion Nicaraguan cigar manufacturers are consistently producing the world's best range of cigars...Padron, Torano and Perdomo to name a few.

The Esteli region of Nicaragua is a plateau surrounded by volcanic mountains...a "hotspot" for tobacco growing...Kind of like Hawaii for Cannabis.

Don't get me wrong though, the Dominican Republic and Honduras has more than their share of top-notch cigar manufacturers. Most of the old tobacco growing Cuban masters reside and operate in the Dominican Republic and Honduras, with a few in Nicaragua.

Hold Your Fire - The Arturo Fuente, Fuente Fuente OpusX is a really good cigar, although a little over-rated and over-priced. I recently tried the new-ish OpusX XXX (4.6 inches long x 49 ring guage) which is a smaller ring guage than I prefer, but I have to say that cigar was VERY surprising...the smoke was thick with a very creamy texture and endless amounts of complex flavor that I have yet to put my finger on...hard to describe the non-subtle cascade of flavors. I think I paid $8 for it, which is fair (hook-up) but I have seen companies on the internet charging $25-$30 a piece...ridiculous!

Also just a heads up, there are MANY counterfeit Cubans, especially Cohibas and Romeo y Julieta, and their quality is equal to a Backwoods with a shaggy foot...NOT good people, NOT good.

Be good.

Let's keep this thread going.

This is a subject close to my heart, and I am already enjoying this thread immensely.

Just for kicks, in 1999 I had two Cuban Cohiba Siglo (THE highest rated cigar ever) that had been aging in my humidor for about 6 years...I took one and prepared it as a blunt wrapper (I know, blasphemy) and rolled up some of my one-year cured Neville's Haze.........all I can say is "beautiful" and "beastly" at the same time.

When I get a chance I will post some pictures of my humidors and "collection" residing within them.

The Acid Kuba Kuba is awesome........try Acid's "Nasty" (a spliff-shaped cigar) or the "Def Sea" (perfecto). Both are interesting to say the least, not your normal cigar...infused with herbs and spices and such. VERY unique, people either LOVE or LOATHE Drew Estates' products. I enjoy the above three, but the rest of the line is not my "cup of tea".

Thanks guys, for talking "tobacco".

Be good.

Here's a secret. You can make cheapish cigars taste awesome. The secret is just lioke mj cigars need proper curing time. You don't get that from any store. you have to buy a humidor, keep the humidity around 70 for at least 3 months. I pulled a 3 yo cheapie out yesterday: it was fantastic.

Lucky SOB! That must have been a beautiful smoke! Add a good quality single-malt and 'boing', a great way to kill an hour or two!

I know the Opus X's are over priced, $8 is crazy cheap for any Opus, again you're a lucky SOB! But still, I could not resist. I've never had an Acid cigar I liked!

Hey Caveman, Id have to agree with lil tiger for the most part. Ive only recently gotten into cigars, but so far in my experience, it really is a matter of personal taste. If you want a beautiful smooth crisp cigar without the power, Id go with something with a CT wrapper, maybe a Rocky Patel or CAO. I really like everything Ive tried from CAO so far, really smooth, tasty, delicious cigars. try the CAO Gold robusto, it just tastes like heaven with a nice sweetness on the finish and alot of nutty goodness...
Rocky Patel, The Edge is a fab cigar as well, a little different from a CT wrapper though. Ive had the Maduro and it was amazingly smooth and surprisingly mild.
Anything by Arturo Fuente will make you an instant convert, as well as Romeo & Julieta.
Cohibas are great, but for a first timer may be too much.
Ive also found Gurkha cigars to be really amazing, but they are pricey...
On my last note, for a first timer or novice such as myself, Ive really enjoyed the ACID brand of cigars, esp. the Blondie, Kuba Kuba and any of the Kruch Klassics are amazing. They can be a bit cloying for the first few minutes, but then they mellow out and become these lovely aromatic, really tasty cigars with some beautiful aromas that soothe ur soul, like any good cigar will do...I agree, they are very soothing for anyone who takes the time to enjoy them properly...Have fun, try a bunch of different cigars, maybe petit coronas are a good start, and find the ones you love...the different sizes can taste different so try them all!!!! Also on a final note...try a Punch cigar, one of the best Ive ever had to date...

Peace and enjoy

What do you guys think of the Opus X? I've got 4-5 in the humi, at least 8 months now. Wanted to wait a year but... might be time to try one.
Any opinions?

Opus need atleast 2-3 years before they can even come into their own. Recently the Opus X has lost its luster compared to the original ones released back in 96'. I have 100+ all over the course of 96' - Dec 09's release. Anything released after 2003(imo), needs substantial time to come into what an Opus really is. They are one of the only cigars I enjoy that arent Habano.

Check out Tatuaje by Pete Johnson. Pete and I have had many talks in the past, his cigars are what you need to be looking into. The Brown or Red line should be good. I cant tell you how many times iv been down in Little Havana at El Rey with Pepin and Pete and wanted to just walk out with a few SLBs of the Noella's. But the Tatuaje Black Corona Gorda takes cake as my all time favorite NC out there.

camacho triple maduro....very nice cigar with a glass of hennessy. my fav

most cubans are phenomanal especially the cohibas but theyre very hard to find if u dont have a connection, so i settle for the dominican cohiba

also, any of the fuente's cigars...great dominican cigar.

the padron 64 is pretty good but the 26 puts me on my ass every single time.too strong for me.

Actually Cuba been slacking, lol. 09 production is iffy at best, will need a ton of time to get rid of the ammonia. 08 production on the other hand was phenomenal. The only 09s I have are the RA CF(Asia RE), the Upmann Mag 48, which are incredible right now.

Iv been off on my buying recently though, stocking up. Need to get back into it.

like i said, its so hard to find cubans that i dont even bother anymore..nt woth the price either. i usually just get them when i go to mexico.
i fell in love with the triple maduro a few years back and its been that ever since.

any CAO fans? italias a pretty good

Actually Habanos are cheaper then NC, lol.

Box of Tatuaje Noella's - $175.00(retail shop)

Box of 08' Hoyo Epicure No. 1s(Habano) - $135.00

And no tax. Finding legit Habanos is extremely easy.

Not a fan of Camacho, since they decided to take Matt Booth and try and make him their version of Pete Johnson. Room 101 cigars, lol.

I'd rather spend $115 on a box of Rocky Patel Vintage!:whistling:
Robusto's are my faves!

So you like smoking dyed wrapper leaf, heh. Rocky dyes the wrapper leaf for the Vintage line as well as the Edge line. He doesnt want to spend the time to leave the wrapper in the pilons to ferment as long as they need. So he just makes the process quicker in his own way :).
